You tell 'em, Pluto!  Stupid humans...will they ever understand what they've lost?  Perhaps the children will.

Superdud...thanks for the thought, anyway.

Thank you for the link, Soda.

It was a terribly unfair vote & it's great to see that scientists are rallying to my side.

Pluto lost it's status because according to the new rules, it must:

1. Orbit the sun

2. Have enough mass that gravity pulls it into a more or less spherical shape

3. It must "clear its neighborhood around its orbit"

Ceres does not qualify due to the asteriod belt being in it's neigborhood.

Xena and Sedna do not qualify due to th myriad of Kupier belt objects within thier neighborhood.

Pluto (and Charon) do not qualify because, like Xena, it crosses the orbit of Neptune.

Neptune therefore should be demoted because it has not claered it's neighborhood of three "dwarf planets"

See, everyone missed the true funny bit...

Charon came in here and posted... And never came back... You see, THAT is how to be indignant... Mr Pluto, he's just basking in the memory of his glory... But Charon, that dude laid down the finger and laid it down hard.

Sometimes its just important to know when to STFU.  And Charon understands

So....'scientists' can't agree on what is a planet, but we're supposed to believe their predictions about global warming:rofl

bastardized a song for yah...

I just can't believe that it's over.

We were chilling out on the sofa,

Digging how the sun glows

In a place that no one knows

Did you catch that moon yourself,

Or did that neptune monster help?

Does everyone have a different take?

you seemed real but now your fake?

Does everyone get hypnotized by your cold?

So long, pluto, so long.

Though you only stayed a moment,

We all know that you're the one. Singing,

So long, pluto, so long.

We miss you now you've gone.

Life goes on.

Well it was discovered in 1930

that was 76 years ago

They beleive It takes Pluto 248 years to orbit the sun. (till its happened they havent proven it)

so Id say in another 172 years we will know for sure.

So be sure to stay tuned LOL

Pluto row could lead to Neptune losing planet status

RICHARD GRAY SCIENCE CORRESPONDENT

The solar system's biggest planets are at risk of being stripped of their status after the world's top astronomers voted to downgrade Pluto into the dwarf planet category.

Experts claim that the definition for planets adopted by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) could also see Neptune downgraded.

They say that both planets fail to meet all the criteria set by the IAU.

...edit...

Harold Weaver, from the John Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory and a New Horizons project scientist, said: "Since many 'Plutinos', including Pluto, cross Neptune's orbit, I'd say Neptune's neighbourhood still needs some clearing."

That's Pluto for you, loves the limelight, just can't get over the fact that his career is over and he now has to return to the dimly lit galleries of the solar system. No longer an A list planet, he's just a Z list rock in space. :p
