In a nutshell, and my opinion from all I have read:

The French just did not have the tactics or organization or logistics required to handle Germany in WW1 ..and WW2 was very much worse.

Most leaders of the era counted on the French to be able to stop the Germans in their tracks ..the French had a lot of soldiers and some formidable defenses. They even had more and better tanks than the German army at the start.

The Germans just cut through them .. hitting them where they weren't until they were so far behind the French line that the French army collapsed.

If we had shared a border with Germany .. we would have been owned ..IMHO.

Frankly, US military readiness sucked in 1939-1940.
Thank God for the British, the Oceans, and the time we were given at such a great sacrifice.

What do you have to sacrifice to be utterly steamrolled?  And then when the free world saves you (D-Day), your leader insists on leading the charge and taking all credit?

Bah...anyways

they helped us in our war of independence, after WWII, we were even.

PS
US entered WWI because Germany tried to get Mexico to invade us and because BRITAIN was our primary ally at the time, not France.

we entered WWII because we were attacked first, we didnt care about France. if we had, we would have sent troops in 1939. liberating France in WWII was a means to an end: the destruction of Germany, nothing more.

Don't see any French here doing that.  I just see ignorant Americans making tulips of themselves.

The French really aren't so different from us Americans, other than the smelly cheese and silly language. They can be just as stubborn and pig headed as us which is probably why we enjoy bashing them as much as we do and vice versa.

Enough of the inuendo lets see some examples?

Napoleans joyride into mother russia was purely for scientific reasons of course?!  historians paint it as just a simple need to expand, his belt was to tight...

Ok... a Wiki search on "France fights communism" produces "zero" hits "Shocker"
And a similar search "France fights facsism" produces a "zero"  surprise...
Google doesn't turn up much in the way of useful information other then the few known french military failures were accustomed to reading about in the Oclub every few months...

Help me out here funked!

Why pander to a country of people who Hate us with a joy only equaled by a muslim with a dull knife.... Its not like a secret or something... Its as well known as how late a frenchman will be for a monday morning 8am meeting...

- Gallic Wars
- Lost. In a war whose ending foreshadows the next 2000 years of French history, France is conquered by of all things, an Italian.

- Hundred Years War
- Mostly lost, saved at last by female schizophrenic who inadvertently creates The First Rule of French Warfare; "France's armies are victorious only when not led by a Frenchman." Sainted.

- Italian Wars
- Lost. France becomes the first and only country to ever lose two wars when fighting Italians.

- Wars of Religion
- France goes 0-5-4 against the Huguenots

- Thirty Years War
- France is technically not a participant, but manages to get invaded anyway. Claims a tie on the basis that eventually the other participants started ignoring her.

- War of Revolution
- Tied. Frenchmen take to wearing red flowerpots as chapeaux.

- The Dutch War
- Tied

- War of the Augsburg League/King William's War/French and Indian War
- Lost, but claimed as a tie. Three ties in a row induces deluded Frogophiles the world over to label the period as the height of French military power.

- War of the Spanish Succession
- Lost. The War also gave the French their first taste of a Marlborough, which they have loved every since.

- American Revolution
- In a move that will become quite familiar to future Americans, France claims a win even though the English colonists saw far more action. This is later known as "de Gaulle Syndrome", and leads to the Second Rule of French Warfare; "France only wins when America does most of the fighting."

- French Revolution
- Won, primarily due the fact that the opponent was also French.

- The Napoleonic Wars
- Lost. Temporary victories (remember the First Rule!) due to leadership of a Corsican, who ended up being no match for a British footwear designer.

- The Franco-Prussian War
- Lost. Germany first plays the role of drunk Frat boy to France's ugly girl home alone on a Saturday night.

- World War I
- Tied and on the way to losing, France is saved by the United States [Entering the war late -ed.]. Thousands of French women find out what it's like to not only sleep with a winner, but one who doesn't call her "Fraulein." Sadly, widespread use of condoms by American forces forestalls any improvement in the French bloodline.

- World War II
- Lost. Conquered French liberated by the United States and Britain just as they finish learning the Horst Wessel Song.

- War in Indochina
- Lost. French forces plead sickness; take to bed with the Dien Bien Flu

- Algerian Rebellion
- Lost. Loss marks the first defeat of a western army by a Non-Turkic Muslim force since the Crusades, and produces the First Rule of Muslim Warfare; "We can always beat the French." This rule is identical to the First Rules of the Italians, Russians, Germans, English, Dutch, Spanish, Vietnamese and Esquimaux.

- War on Terrorism
- France, keeping in mind its recent history, surrenders to Germans and Muslims just to be safe. Attempts to surrender to Vietnamese ambassador fail after he takes refuge in a McDonald's.

Maybe it's not that american education is bad, but we have some of the dumbest mother ****ers ever writing our history books.  Or at least the history books that are given to the education system.

The amount of wrong information here is staggering.

Perhaps; it's quite possible they were promoting/protecting their national interests. Just like the US has done and will do.

Nonetheless, without them the British would very likely have successfully put down the rebellion.

WW1 I'm not sure about, it never intrested me before
but
In WW2 The US saved France, and England from Germany, The only reason we liberated France was so we could have a landing spot to wage a ground war against Germany, we used England as a bombing platform and fighter base, As for the Revolution if it hadn't been for France we would still have won that war.
