Here is La-5FN White 52 "Mongol'skii Arat" from 2 GIAP flown by Captain Nikolai Pushkin in September, 1943 as she looked on acceptance trials, fresh from the factory floor at Gorki. That's a nice way of saying I haven't put the smudge or weathering layers in yet.

There are some artifacts; the blue visible from the slats for one. I haven't found the spot to fix that if it's fixable. The slogan is reversed on the starboard side, but I'm not sure that's hugely noticable, and is NOT noticable at 300 knots while you're being fired at.

Otherwise she's ready for inspection, after which I'll give her some wear and tear. What do you guys think?

Looks a lot better than the first one--real nice, I like it. With some weathering and finishing touches, it should look tight!

i dont think hiteck will acept it with the inscription being mirriored on the cockpit.
also if you look at the nose the cowl band going over the top is out of line,its just a simply thing to adjust but a little fiddly as u hae to move it a few pixels at a time.

i know because i had to do it,apart from that its looking really nice

You need to check the area on the leading edge of the stabilizers. You've got the patterns mixed. I think you just need to find where they end and move the camo pattern a bit to match what you find.

Jeebus, Krusty, I didn't even notice that. Thanks for the catch! Too busy looking at the wings. Of course now I see a few other mis-matched areas as well. They got this thing re modeled yet!?

I have never seen a brown nosed La5.
A field recognition of Yellow was used briefly and then dropped as LW used it to. Red was of course used in the Blatic circa Summer 44.

The wing joint lines and landing gear mounting cap plate are barely visible in a finished ac. Both were hidden under a layer of paint and laquer so appeared more as "shadows" than the sort of line joints we would expect to see from removable panels.

Below is a link to some pics I took 6 years ago of an La7 in Prague. The panel lines are a little different but it should help you see how they were hidden under the paint and laquer.

I have one piece of art that shows both spinner and front cowl of this AC in bright yellow..........basically identical to the LW yellow in hue.

Also the botton part of the rudder (below the elevator line) is in underbelly blue...........

Cowl is a gold/yellow (at least it shows up that way on my screen). The spinner is supposed to be red in the plate I have, but there is no way to change the spinner color on the La5.

There were 13 Mongolskii Arat aircraft made; is the one you're looking at with the yellow spinner white 52?

Bah.

Haven't heard from Pyro, so I'll probably submit the beast the way it is and worry about fixing the things that should be fixed when they remodel the aircraft and get rid of the texture bugs.

Yes and its Mongolskii Arat .......... also one of the cannon bulges should be much smaller than the other.

OK some clues

The colours AMT-12 & AMT-11 were introduced across various Plants between September 43 and January 44.

2 GIAP was part of 322 from Mid July 43 onwards (Orel)

On the La5f there was no AMT-7 (blue) on the rudder. On La5FN's from zaphod 99 there was some blue applied to the lower rudder. Where as its clear that some L5FN's from zaphod 381 left the rudder in AMT-12/11.

So depending on where it was made the rudder could be to either.

Re the red spinner...........

Yellow spinners were used on some La's (and yaks) during 43 as a recognition aid. Mostly in the central belt on conflict. However these were dropped as the LW used Yellow as a recognition code.

In the Baltic and Northern zones of conflict in 44 red spinners and nose cones became common.

IMO the yellow cone of 2GIAP would have been unusual but quite possible in Sept 43. However it would have been a field mod to a brand new ac. No doubt to match the yellow noses/spinners of older La's (F's & FN's)already on squadron strength but painted in the green black of the earlier camo.

IMO the use of a red spinner would have been very unusual in 43.

Frankly I would look more closely at the B & W photo for clues. Comparing the centre of the stars with the spinner.

I need a color standart to match RGB values against AMT colors.

As for the spinner, it's all moot at this point. The spinner color cannot be modified, so 2 GIAP in AH used the classic "white" spinner by definition
