Here she is after undergoing re-work to repair issues identified by the test pilots.

In any event:

Here we have the world-famous NF5-aL during a live fire excersize.  The FN badge is also bass-ackwards, reading NF from this side.  Bah.

What happened to the camo on top of the stabilizers? Now it's all one color.

You noticed that, eh?

Near as I could tell it's a double reversed mirror.  Without any guide to what La-5FN cammo looks like on the stabilizers I just removed it.  I did fix the starboard star (half mirror/half placed, and the placed was a couple pixels off) and the dorsal cammo merge, which was also off.  There were six or seven other places where the map was off by a few pixels here or there, such as the cowl band.  I spent quite a bit of time chasing map anomolies that apparently can't be fixed at all.

I lost patience with the horizontal stabilizer leading edge.

Hopefully some day in the not too distant future the Lavochkins will get updated maps.

Here's what I mean about the leading edge.  Given this map:

You get this result:

Thre might be a pattern that you can twist into working with that mess, but I couldn't find it.

Ahhh... I see the problem. I've got similar problems on the C205.

F4Us have problems like that, too.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

I'm guessing Fester there means that aside from the few streaks/stains, there's little weathering. The colors are mostly clean and clear.

If that's what he means I think I'd have to agree. I just thought you'd add more, when I first saw this post.

Yeah, she's DEFINATELY short on panel detailing.

...unfortunately I'm definately short on panel line details.  The modeling views I have only show the major seams, which look like sub assembly points and not panels.  I could e-wag a bunch of them, but I'm not sure it's time to go that far.

I asked Skuzzy about the mirrored details, and he's going to ask Pyro.  Give or take if they have an ETA for an updated model I may wait to add the fine work (like guessing at panel lines and embossing them).  The La-7 at least doesn't mirror on the fuselage; even that would be a huge help on the La-5.  Once I hear back from The Dark Powers I'll decide what to do next.

As for weathering, I've changed how I do that so adding more will be significantly easier.  The whole thing goes back into the paint shop, then I'm putting it in a weathering tank for a few days to wear it out a bit.  It should look like it's seen a Russian winter before I'm done.

Overall my biggest dissapointment is nobody asked what the text on the access panels is.  It's cyrillic, it actually says something, and it's a 4 point font  :D

insistance on panel lines is one of the things that annoys me with AH skins, on most aircraft the majority are not very visible at all, just the access panels are visible.

I think using pictures of aircraft kept under museum-quality conditions where giving the plane a good wash or a fresh coat of paint isn't secondary to repairing battle damage and just keeping the thing flying is a poor argument for "no visible panel lines" (not to mention the fact when was the last time that 262 did more than just sit indoors?)

I can see all manner of dirt, smoke and other debris working into the cracks between the panels and making them more readily visible on an aicraft being maintaned under combat conditions.
