All "buff whining" aside, there is one aspect of bomber formations that could be "fixed" that I would think everyone would agree is fair. As it is now, the drones are able to catch the lead bomber almost no matter what that lead does. They do not turn as sharply, but many times the lead will apparently leave them far behind during a turn, only to see them magically exceed the maximum speed for that bomber and catch back up to the lead.
Historically bombers needed to fly slower to enable the pilots to more easily maintain tight formations. If the drones were limited to the same physics as the lead in terms of acceleration and maximum speed, a player in AH would also have to slow down, or at least take greater care during turns. This would bring the formations closer to an "historically accurate" way of flying in terms of speed. And instead of essentially flying an extra large bomber in three parts as it is now, you really have the physics and challenges of maintaining a three plane formation.
To be clear, IMO there is nothing wrong with the bombers being able to go full throttle at all times as this is possible in every aircraft in the game. And this would still be possible in a formation situation. But the pilot would have to pay more attention during turns and take-offs so the drones really can catch up and/or maintain formation just like a pilot truly leading a formation would have to. Without paying attention, at full throttle 100% of the time the lead would potentially see the drone box slowly spread out and fall behind during a turn.
Right now there is almost no trade off between speed and firepower for the bombers, which again is not the way it was. A small trade off between speed and massed firepower seems appropriate to me (and this trade would still be much much smaller than it was in RL).
I brought this up in another thread, and it seemed to have a positive response before the typical verbal slug fest started, so I thought I would bring it up here "officially". (Seems logical, so I doubt it is an original thought either).
Thanks.
