zoom proposal
« on: August 28, 2006, 01:27:16 AM »
may be a dumb question but how do we know that the default game zoom is propper?

what if it should actually be at 2x what we actually have and, so when u look at a plane 1k away u can actually see a slight silouette. though it would possibly butcher peripheals (if thats how u spell it).

just a thought after thinkin back to fs2004 where u have ability to zoom out even more than what is default.

everything still takes the same time to arrive at a point despite how far or close it looks

I suspect everything is worked out by having the default zoom represent 90 degrees of viewing angle.  From there, you can figure out how big a plane should be at a given distance.  Having a computer screen represent 90 degrees of viewing angle is correct for typical screens with your eyeball sitting about 1-1.5 feet from the screen.

bagrat: It is realy hard to describe what is proper. Think of the compter screen as a window. If you get closer to the window you can see a bigger angle of items outside the window. So what Field of view (i.e Zoom) realy depends on how far you are sitting from the screen.

What the default is , realy dosn't make much difference, most games use about a 45 - 68 deg FOV, this is equivlant to pressing Z and not adjusting the zoom we would have 57 deg . We default to 90 degs which gives more overall SA but less detail on planes.

The real kicker is that in real life your eye has almost teliscopic view in the center of your vision, hand hardly any detail at the edges, and obviously there is no good way to do that on a computer screen.
