The elections are in turmoil, we are a divided nation, one side is pulling every dirty trick they can, BUT....

You know why we don't have rampant violence in the streets and utter chaos don't ya?

Becuase we are all armed, so we got RESPECT for each other, hehe, so far

Hmmm - interesting POV. But I think people should have respect for each other regardless of whether they are armed or unarmed. I wouldn't want to live in a society where you needed to have a gun in your hand to feel repected.

Lets see snoopi just mentioned AL Gore's strongholds, I guess that wasn't personal.

StSanta insinuated I was a teenager or at least held an immature viewpoint. He was also wrong to think that the person who doesn't fear you will always respect you, study the human race a little closer bud

Fd-ski stated that I only felt respected because I am armed and that I should be pitied.

Dowding made some moronic little quote that equates my stance with that of a pimp on some street in one of Al Gore's support bases.

So you see rather than comment on my funny little observation, you guys decided to attack me personally

, typical liberal, democrat, or whatever you are.

As far as how to take my original post, it was an observation as to why we can be so divided and still hold the line on the rule of law. As to why we don't react like the rest of the world and start fighting in the streets. Because we know we can, we know what could happen, we are deterred from the path of violence because we are fully capable of answering like with like. No one party oppresses the other, one side doesn't wield an army or a "republican guard" because they can't, or they would.

Chill Wrench. Perhaps you might pay closer attention to the 'smileys' on the posts. I've always took this as denoting a non-serious comment or that we were pulling your leg. 'Personal attack' is a bit strong; you haven't seen one until you've read what I've been called.

My comment wasn't aimed at you personally; I was pointing out that a pimp on a street corner believes *he* has respect because he is armed. Which is ridiculous.

I think you have misunderstood Santa's point. I think he meant that from the viewpoint of a bully, it easy to think people respect you, when in fact they fear you.

You now make the point that America is some bastion of civilisation and that the rest of the world errupts into violence over the slightest problem. Nice one. Look at the massive disputes we have had over here regarding fuel prices - all demonstrations were peaceful and civil war didn't errupt. Or perhaps look at how divided people are over here viz European integration - we don't have civil war either.
