To extend my apex seal life, I'll disable the oil hack and use something else. For the rest of y'all, the wankel rotary engines don't have a non-combustion stroke that can be used to lubricate the apex seal, sort of the equivalent of a piston ring in an OTTO IC. To get around this, Mazda engineers scavenge a little bit of crankcase oil and inject it with the fuel so that it lubricates the way a 2-stroke engine does.
Any grit in the crankcase oil acts like sandpaper and abrades the seal.
What I'll do is disable the scavenger and either mix 2-stroke or put in a 2-stroke oil injector so that the seals are fully lubricated. Should extend apex life and improve reliability.
Ok, Golfer should be here with some snark about automotive conversions on planes in 5... 4... 3... 2.....
