Hey guys -

As some of you may have seen from a post I made last week, my machine recently went poop on me. I narrowed the culprit down to the PSU, and need to buy a new one.

I am currently running a Raidmax 420W as my backup in my gaming rig.

I would like to purchase a high-end PSU that I can use into the forseeable future.

My current rig is as follows:

2 IDE CD Trays
2 IDE HDDs
Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe MoBo
AMD Athlon XP-M (45W) 2600+ 2.0GHz (Barton Core)
ATi Radeon X800XT PE 256MB
1.5 GB Geil PC3200 DDRAM
5 Case Fans

I would like to be able to use the PSU I buy now up to 5 years into the future, when I upgarde to a 64-bit or dual CPU/dual core system. I may also consider going to SATA HDDs. Of course, I want good V on the rails, possibly dual rails (although I must admit I dont know what that really means)

I have read around and see that Antec and PC Power and Cooling seem to be the best high-end.

Are any of you willing/able to provide me with some more ideas/specifics/etc?

My budget sits around $100 for this purchase.

OCZ GameXstream 700w. I think was around $150, but well worth it.

I have a 680W revision2 Thermaltake that has been great , 52A 12 rail 28A 3.3V rail , 30A 5V rail. Voltages are right on the money . Havent looked at a price lately , but it been out awhile so hopefully its come down some.

Get lots of watts. Video cards today and all the other suck up juice now a days. A power supply that can handle the load will run cooler. Not really less heat within the system, but cooler components in and of themselves . Over kill is definitely a good thing as far as power supplies go. Less component heat is always better. Heat is fatigue and strain on circuits. What i'm saying is that if heat comes about because u don't have enough watts everything in your system will strain trying to draw the current.

I had a Pure Power 680 prior, one of the cooling fans went bad on me and it fried.

Has worked perfectly for me. Takes the air off my vertical CPU heatsink as well. It's only 420W, however.
