Poll...Why to People Flame?
« on: February 19, 2001, 03:20:00 PM »
1.  They have a deep seated need to get
    a point across.

2.  For the love of Debate.

3.  It's become a knee-jerk reaction due
    to this Board's atmosphere.

4.  There's nothing better to do.

5.  All of the above with the added
knowledge that your not going get a fat
lip or bloody nose out of it.

Just wondering

Insecurity in most cases.  By belittling others, one subconsciously feels better about themselves, and justify ones behavior.

Depends. Sometimes I flame because I know the reaction will be funny (case in point, TheWobble and his BS life)
And sometimes I flame because some people here just have it coming. They say some of the must stupid things.

But overall this is a great comunity, if you think this place is bad.. oh boy..

Hmmmm...as a firefighter for 19 years, I have to deal with real flames in RL. Why the heck would I ever want to deal with flames in my fun time?

What comes around goes around. Too many ...err.. a very select few folks find the kill on the BBS more enjoyable than in the game.

OOps...Just thinking out loud again..Oz

6. Because somebody has to stand up to the ultra-reactionary yahoos that poliferate this forum.

Some foreigners reading this forum might assume that these guys speak for the majority of Americans, but they're wrong.

Often times in America, the loudest opinion is usually the one in the minority.

I agree with banana.

Since Americans make up the majority of people on this board, his point valid.

Maybe I will one day go to America, and compare the reality to my perception gleaned from these boards.

If you glean that america is a vast and diverse culture that can not (even among themselves) agree on what that culture is, then your perception will not change

It makes a difference also where you visit, all New Yorkers are not rude tight prettythanges, though that is what most of the rest of America seems to think.  All Californians are not bleeding heart liberal hippy's in spite of most Americans perception of them. All Alabama en's are not rednecks still fighting the civil war, all Texans are not ... well maybe they are   (In case you missed the smiley I was just kidding).

You also find huge attitude differences kinda based on the living east or west of the 100th meridian, and massive attitude differences in big city dwellers and the rural communities folks.

All in all "what can you say about a country that goes out of its way to protect the rights of the people that are trying to destroy it"?  "God Bless America" (from a episode of West Wing)

Oops! This is a flame poll thread, so ummmm, lets see, ummm, Oh heck! I have no Idea ... hehehe.

I'm sure if I wanted to really understand a place I'd have to live there for a good few years.

You could go on holiday there and meet a complete banana, and forever despise the place. Same as anywhere (especially London).
