Gore carried 19 states, with a popular vote of 48,977,259.
Bush carried 29 states with a popular vote of 48,783,825

Click that link and take a look at that map. Looks like Bush carried alot more of the country than Gore did, but Gore is ahead in the popular vote because he carried the huge population centers (and Cali, why does it get so many electoral votes anyway?). Seems to me the will of the people has spoken

Cave - unless you want to give acres of land a voice, that makes no sense. I'll say it again. More people in the entire country voted for Gore. As for the Electoral College? Yah, Gore currently has a majority of those numbers also.

The reason unfortunately is because Cali iso HUGE, and that it's major cities are so HUGE.

I.E. San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Not to mention all those "little" cities scattered up and down the central valley like Sacramento, Stockton, Redding, etc.

too many damn people, which is why when i finally retire, i'm going to find some town with a population of like 50 and live there. Wonder how much it'll cost to run a T1 line up there in the mountains.

), were you the guy that said that, despite now residing in Florida, you were going to send an out of state vote to California (where you were registered) as you thought it would matter more there?

Nash I'm merely pointing out what the electoral college does. Gore has more of the popular vote because he carried more of the major population centers, ie CA and NY, which count for 87 (54 and 33 respectively) electoral votes(~1/3 Gore's total). The other 17 states Gore carried make up the other 168 electoral votes.

Bush carried 29 states, but was still 193434 votes behind in the popular vote (#s from the link above).

They're seperated by 9 electoral votes, 255 for Gore (NM changed to 'too close to call') and 246 for Bush, with 37 electoral votes still out (OR 7, NM 5, and FL 25).

Unfortunately, even with the electoral college, Oregon and New Mexico dinnae matter one way or the other at this time. Without Florida neither candidate has the needed 270 electoral votes. Whoever gets FL wins.
