Hi chaps!

I would go for unperked spawnable battery of 4 x 5 inchers and perked spawnable battery of 3 x 88's...

Next evo, towable guns, vehicle driver would be the gun operator when gun disengaged from truck. Buddy riding truck could man the .50 from then on. If gun destroyed all the place would blow up and both would be killed, counting as kills.

This would be fun!

The vehicle spawn points are out of artillery range of towns & fields sometimes; why not just add a SP artillery piece like the Wespe?

And Large Maps:aok
Forgot who said this while trying to take a base, but the quote goes like this. "I cant help you with ack, Im not in attack mode" This is with only 2 ack up in the town while troops were there, waiting. The rest of the town was down.

The German 88mm Flak 36 had an advantage over most of the Artillery mentioned.  It had an Air defense role as well.

So a multi-use addition,
* AP rounds against direct fire targets.   Like tanks.
* HE rounds in indirect fire mode against area targets.  Like towns.
* AA rounds for manned puffy ack against anything up to 35K feet altitude. Sub-orbital buff drivers beware.

It wouldn't work very well on its own, in the current MA's arcade warfare.
It would work a lot better in an environment where it could be deployed and not be spotted before it started doing its job..  As it is, all you have to do is grab a few thousand feet from any base, turn on Shift-F4 mode, and watch for any black specs on the ground.. nevermind if it has forced tracers like Tanks do now, and if it spawns at the position marked on the LASER ACCURATE MAP.

I think the ground side of the game should definately play a backseat roll in this game and I still think that this is a good idea.

Nice suggestion.

I run alot of buff operations, and I hate to get them shot down, BUT. A great alternative to the whine of buff formations, would be to be able to fire puffy ack at bomber formations. Right now without having any real air defense other then the fighter support, AA would now have new meaning with these rolling out of the VH. Would be very kewl IMHO.

OK to do Artillery would be SO EASY in this game it's not even funny. I have some solutions here for those that might pay attention.

First thing is we need an Artillery piece to operate. Easy deal here because we already have a 5" and 8" piece modeled onboard the ships correct? You take the single 5" mount on the CV's and put it on a vehicle. What vehicle do you use. Easy answer to that one also.

M4 Sherman is now a M7 Priest
M7 Priest

Panzer IV is now a Sdkfz 165 Hummel
Hummel

T-34 is now a SU-122
SU-122

OK we now have several vehicles with Artillery pieces on them, with only needing a limited amount of modeling done by the staff at HTC. Should be easy for them to modify what they already have right?? They would need to set the end stops for the traverse of the guns, and basically give them all the 5" single mount off the CV's we already have. It's close enough to the guns these things had to work for our purposes in the game.

Fielding the things would be easy too. Make it possible to take a formation of guns (like bombers) for a modest perk cost (say 5 points for a formation) and free if a single. They would use the same targeting system already used by the ship guns when used in "land" mode. They would also have a direct fire capability if your in sight of the target and not doing indirect fire. Give them the abillity to fire a red colored smoke round for spotting purposes and the forward observers in other GV's or aircraft can call in adjustments for fire. Regular vehicle supplies can resupply the guns with shells from a M3 half track.

Give them all say a 15 second delay from the time they stop to being able to fire the gun, as these things did not fire on the move.

I'm sure some things might need to be "tweaked" to get it perfect but the concept is so simple I'm surprised it's not been done already.

As a former "Red Leg" / "Gun Bunny" / Artilleryman I would LOVE to see this in the game. Come on HiTech give us some BIG guns to play with.

Artillery - The King of Battle

This is what I played with in the Army.

Well, I knew you guys would come around to a realistic way of thinking...
Arty is a good thing...
Medium Arty wouldn't need AP to kill a Tank, even a Tiger...
At Kursk, in 1943, The Russians used 152's as direct fire AT guns... With standard HE rounds... HESH wasn't developed until later....
They split the Tigers open like soda pop cans.... Photo's are available!!
Remember that;
Arty, even SP's require, a surveyed controll point, for indirect fire..
There was no GPS, or PADS, or SRP/PDS, in WW2...
It takes longer than 15secs to deploy an Arty battery...
Arty would be deployed in Valleys, not on hilltops...
Their high angle fire, would reach OVER the hill....

In WW2, the germans viewed US L5/7's as the harbingers of death...
They would bring almost instant Arty fire from all directions...
US pattern Arty would be the best... Most effective by far...
105, 155long tom, and the KING of destruction, 8inch towed....
