The new map... how do you get a reset on it?
« on: July 04, 2001, 09:48:00 PM »
I love the look of the new arena.  Canyon fighting has finally returned, much to the dismay of LW fans.  I don't think I saw a single fight over 10k tonight.

This map has some layout quirks.  I'm kinda wondering how that western finger is supposed to be captured.  I mean, seems that if someone pushed their way in, then they'd automatically isolate the western nation from the other enemy and have to fight a two front war.  Basically, whomever is to the west will only have one country hitting them when things get tough.. and the attacking country will automatically have two hitting it.

This is also one of the first maps I've seen where 3 countries at one base was so prevelant.  It makes for some great furballs... but not much else.

Nice eye-candy, little else with this new map. :(

Wierd thing is DjVu I see many more hi alt fights, even stuff over 20k. Kinda interesting how we see different things in the same game, go figure.  Anyway I agree this new map and terrain is very pretty to look at but has some gameplay/strat issues about gangbanging certain countries based on map location.

and iff CVs cant be captured, then how do u get the other country down to 1 base when he will have 2 CVs that count as bases.

HT if u mean for CVs not to be captureable, how about if the port is in enemy hands and
they kill CV, it wont respawn until the original port owner retakes it.

kind ruins the fun when u take the port
and have to kill the CV every 10 mins when it respawns off ur base.

There seems to be lots of 15-25k action if you stay at the small islands in the north...

I'm finding best of both worlds with this terrain. Dunno if it's the terrain itself, but fact is that I can easily find low alt, canyon knife fites, and high (very high) ones.

I think I just needed this boost in my fun in AH. I'm having a really good time in AH these days   :)

Cheers,

Pepe

love the map. dont care aboot reset but conspiracy theory fans would tend to believe HT disabled cv capture because he didnt have time to finish up the arena reset and map change code     :p   :D

as for fights... i have found fights at 30k all the way down.

the map is so well done that it promotes fights at all altitudes
Fester was my in game name until September 2013

Last night was the first night I have spent alot of time in it.

Don't know who made it but the textures are very NUTTZ like.

I like it.

I found most combat from 15k down. With the vast majority below 10k, which suites my LA-7 just great   :D

why would ya want to?   I think it does offer the best of high and low alt fights.   the furballers and the high alt guys have a place... It is a "layered" game in this terrain.   I have found that the timid high alt guys can pretty much be ignored because they will not attempt a B&Z as readily in this terrain.

It is kinda a rough terrain tho on any plane not a lag7, spit or nik (in that order) when things get low.

Hooligan took a G6 up for one of the first times and got 6-8 kill sorties at relatively low alt so go figure.   course... Lw planes are the easiest planes to master in the game bur still...

if it proving to be so hard to get a reset on this map, maybe we need a timer. say if there hasn't been in a reset in 5 days it automatically cycles to the next map. just an idea.

Hehe... I know what sortie of Hooligan's you are talking about... I shot his wing off to end it ;)  About that time.. 2 other planes came in and finished off a one winged flaming 109 leaving me with 3 other enemies to engage.  I got an assist. Ah.. I love the MA.

I still haven't seen much over 10k.  A couple that started there were always down below very soon since a friendly base was never that far away... and the save your bellybutton dive for home is so accessable.

As for when a reset occurs... say what you want... but lets see how it goes the first time a team tries to push someone west.  Like it or not, you have to consider it.

Deja i think what sortie youre talking about.  I was in the a8 in the middle of fields and i had fought the 109g10 there. i had to extend to south (towards friendly airbase) to get my speed up and meanwhile g10 was closing me. He was d800 over the field and i decided to try force overshoot..I succeeded and pinged 2 pings, unfortunately not 30mm and the fight continued. We came lower alt and i saw 6 friendly cons coming to rui..*cough* help me in my fight (  ;) ) and while i was pulling up, deja shot 109 wing off..And knowing i was worked my bellybutton off for getting that g10 in evasive i went after him and pinged with my MG to get the kill, not assist. (Who makes most pings, NOT damage, gets the kill)

Thanks deja for help, after all that was your motivation right? =D

To this topic, the mountains make hi alt. fighters to stay hi, since they cant run straight on the deck. Mountains also make B&Z  planes think about when to bounce and when not, since it can be deathtrap.
Havent had a single p51 follow me from 30k to deck and to bitter end, like they did in last map. I can now concentrate on my own flying and i dont have to breack my neck constantly looking to my 6.
This is not perfect map, but much better than any ive seen so far. I wed just get that ol' beta map in rotation..

Don't think it was the same one.  He was on my Squadie's 6 with nobody within 2k of him.  I had to dive from 15k to help.

I see what you mean DJ. the west has a sort of bastion that it can defend. But the last field that it has that cant be attacked by the sea is a10.
