define an AH "vet"

all this banter about what a vet should or shouldn't be doing has gotten me to think about who is defined as a vet and who is a noob.  for the record I am and shall always be a noob.

what do others think, me wonders?

An AH "vet" is a sort of animal doctor who looks after all the little sheep that live in the hills & valleys between the airfields that get poorly because we fly our nasty, noisy planes to close to the ground and scare them.

Sorry, I can't help you about "noobs" - a piece of equipment a vet uses??

    Id say a year of playing AH would make you a vet. That gives someone enough time to learn the game, become OK in everything, and also enough time to get to know a few folks.

    However when most say vets, they are probably referring to people who have flown flight sims for years.

Certainly time in the game contributes to being a 'vet', but I think I'd take it further.  

I think 'vets' recognize the game for what it is, a game.  I don't think the 'vets' get caught up in the stuff that gets folks early in the game, as in score mongering, flying only the uber rides and thinking that being the high scorer and gaining rank means much if anything.

I'd like to believe that 'vets' try to contribute positively to the AH community in whatever ways they can.  This can include how they carry themselves in the arena and on 200.  It can be in helping newbies learn the ropes.  It can be on the boards with advice or help.  I can be through their work doing aircraft skins or maps.  It can be through all the special events stuff, scenarios, snapshots etc.

Basically I think you've made 'vet' status when you recognize a responsibilty back to the game and community and do your best to make it better.

I think a year is a bit short with regards to the complexities of the game.

In my opinion you start to transition from newb to vet at about 3 years.  It takes a while to define your playing style because there is so many aspects to this game.

I would think a vet would have been in a couple of different squads or at least one for a few years.  

I would think a vet understood all of the types of game play and their affects on the community and MA.

They have been around long enough to know most of the players and most of the AH history.

They know who the real vets are.  :D

They understand the short comings of AH and can add to threads without the obvious, repeated noob perspectives.

after you have completed your 1000th HO attempt, 750th gang-bang, 500th cherry pick, and/or 1200th vulch, you are an AH MA vet .. usually takes the average ah'er about 6 months...

Maybe an AH vet is someone who has done it all... tried all planes and vehicles, tried all playing styles (furballing, scorewhoring, landgrabbing, toolshedding, hordes, duels, events, whaddevaugot).
Someone who no longer has an agenda of being best some way or in some category.
Someone who can just play and enjoy the game :rolleyes:

I had a noob tried wanted to Ho me in a 110 but missed. So out of fun I take my Hurri 2C and HO him on the next pass. Needless to say, I killed him on the 2nd HO and I never received one bit of damage
