Lanc skins
« on: September 09, 2006, 01:25:08 PM »
All i want for christmas is a few new lanc skins. at present, all they have is the default skin. Hopefully a desert skin (don't even know if it exists), would be nice

Most Lancasters had the same skin as in game due to the fact they flew a good amount of sorties at night so there was no real need for any other kind of camo.

Here are some different ones, although not much different. http://www.luchtoorlog.be/img/lan_ii/cam1.jpg

Then again, some of those probably aren't our model of Lanc either.

I've never fully understood the need for a (historical) night-bomber in a (mainly) daylight arena. Great bomb load and durability is the only thing that beast has going for it.

its an illusion that all lancs flew at night, towards the end of the war they were doing a lot of daylight raids.

i spoke to a lancaster pilot who completed an entire tour of duty and did not fly one night time sortie.

heres one that i doubt they would allow: -

Isn't that the bomb that was made to spin when it hit the water so it could blow up dams?

nope, thats Tall Boy. A huge bomb, used against the Tipitz (Correct me if im wrong) Im not sure how much it weighed. I would love to see it in AH, better than a darn nuke anyway, and that would destroy a cv no hassle, plus a town

I'd have a better chance in running into a Dodo Bird in the middle of rush hour, walking down the I-5 with two hookers in tow before I see a useful post from glock89- Ack-Ack

Both wrong, it is a 22,000lb Grand Slam earthquake bomb.

here it is next to the smaller Tallboy.

The reason we don't have any other lanc skins is 2-fold.

1) Lanc is nearly un-skinnable at the moment. The way the skin file is laid out prohibits re-skinning.

2) Find one real photo (not a color template) of a war-time lancaster -- the prerequisite is that it has to be WARTIME, there are some colorful post-war pics, and it has to be ARMED, no unarmed MAC transports or anything.

Find a photo of that that isn't black undersides and brown/green standard uppers, then maybe somebody will be interested in skinning it. As it stands all the options are identical save for the letters on the side of the fuselage.

EDIT

P.S. Furball, the same url has this one. That doesn't look like white undersides to me. I think whoever colored that profile just didn't know better.

Possibly the same reason that the JV44 Swurgerstaffle that flew fighter cover for the taking off and landing Me262s was painted bright red with white stripes on the underside of the fuselage/wings

That is: to alert friendly Ak gunners that the aircraft were friendly when there were mulitple contacts

There just *has* to be some "Caption this" potential in that shot of the dude and the two bombs ...
... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB

the lancaster was made when AH had a night mode.

night mode was removed due to the whines.
