When you were just starting out in your first fight sim, who helped you out and what squads have you been in?

For me it was WBs and a guy named Deft.  He took me along on a sweep and coached me as we went.  (This was all in text back in the old days.)  We flew all over with him killing everybody and me killing a couple, then landing.  LANDING!  That was a new experience.    Nothing like an Ace showing you the ropes.  I really need to do it more myself.

First squads were: Red Falcons, 1st ACM?, Flying Pigs, Flying Zoo and now a Kid Hofer tribute squad, "Sho-Me".

For me it was AW in June of 97. Two guys (Dart and Cold) of The Black Roses squad found me in the OC just kinda peaking around. They took me to a training area, showed me a few things and signed me into the Black Roses. I learned a lot from those two in a real short time. Great fun.

Haha I first played flight simulator on an Apple IIe.

Later on with an OLD IBM... black and white graphics and "dots" for landmarks.  Cropdusting was a blast though in the old MS flight simulator.  Wish they still had it.

Mine was a pilot named Yuri in AirWarrior.

she would take a bunch of us noobs to the WWI arena, and have 5-10 of us trailing along behind her as she showed us different ACM moves.  Would go on for 'bout an hour, then we would all go into a private chat room and discuss what we just learned.

(sigh) good times

2001, the 332nd squadron was formed by GA and I joined them after about a month in AH. The squadron was running training sessions for the newbies and I learned a lot from GA, Selector and Duvel.

I also learned a lot from board discussion with Lephturn, and from films posted by him, Frenchie and Drex. Nautrally, these films involved Jugs so I tried to repeat their moves in a Jug. I liked it so much that I've been flying it since.

I tried looking for the old 332nd vikings website but it appears to be down. Instead I found an AAR website of TOD (today called FSO) I used to run. Here's one of my favorites:
Battle ground Fillippines

And the Vikings in their glory days (AH1 actually looked good:)):

I used to fly a lot of H2H with Deft back in the old Brand W days.

He was wicked in that FM2!
He also ran a darn good H2H ladder.

Squads, well I started out in a H2H bunch, but quickly got online with Daddog & the Flying Mongrels. Been with them through thick & thin.

Yea deft got me hooked also. Back in 1995 we worked together, and he built a computer for me. Told me about warbirds, and I was hooked! We would talk WWII aviation all night, and then log on after work, and play until the sun came up. But he is still a punk! :D

The Red Falcons were my first squad, and I have some fond memories of that time. Used to fly a lot with some dweeb named rexx.

Learned on the same game, same copy (bought in '84 or '85), same computer back in the awesome '80's. Flayd is my brother. Our dad still has Sub-Logic's version of Flight Simulator on tape, which took fooooorrrrrrrrreeeevvvvveeerr rrr to load. One side of it, we were flying  around Illinois in a Piper Cherokee, the other side was aerial combat against WW1 A.I. (if you wnat to call it that) opponents on a green, flat-grid map with two sides of card-board mountians and a river cut through the middle.

There aren't many screenshots. I had a helluva time finding this one.

And check out the good read on the box!:D

Stupid tripod blocks the hot link.
Here they are, 332nd vikings in their finest hour.
Ahhh.... good old times, I remember when players were honorable, talk on channel 1 was polite, sheep were fluffy, the sun was green and little elves were playing in the streets.

Was my 1st flight game on a c64. AW1 on AOHELL was my first online game. I flew with Hog@n's Heros. Hog@n and cartr taught me a good bit. Had to take a break for awhile when I came back I could not find AW to my dismay. I looked around and found it on game(^&^$*$*&)storm. And met up with the Confederate Knights, WORRO was the CO.

Started around '98 in AW with Grimm & Gunner of the Cactus Air Force (CAF) because a girl was driving me nuts and I needed to vent! :rofl   Flew with them from AW to AHI and now AHII.  Got sent overseas to Italy in 2002 so lost alot of time between AHI & II.  Finally got back online in the Spring of 2004 and started up right again.  Didn't get to fly with the CAF alot due to the time-zone difference and alot of wierd hours on my part.  Figure I would leave the Squad and go solo for a little while and after a few months I got asked by Dogg, Floppy & Kaz to jump over to thier squad channel.  After a bit they fed me some wierd food... might have been chicken... or camel and I got the invite into the Araibian Knights.  Have enjoyed every minute of this game wither I am getting killed or soing the killing.  A to you all over the years!

DFA, Death from Above, was my first squad in Air Warrior III.  Relic was the CO then and still is I believe.  Hell Gods was my next squad in AW III and Wax was the CO.

Both guys still fly and during those times that I'm flying as opposed to when I not, I very much enjoy seeing them and saying "howdy."

Both helped me bunches.  Also, it was fun to be along side Wax during the first months of our  learning curve in Aces High.  I never mastered the "learning" part of the curve and just noodle about.

Also, Airmess, CZ Bird, and Orel and the rest of guys from Abbeyville Kids squad were very helpful too.  Scary talented pilots!!
