Best Luftwaffe ride
« on: September 13, 2006, 01:58:27 AM »
Hi guys

I had a search for a topic of this nature but nothing jumped out at me, so I'm sorry if something like this already exists.

I'm prompted to ask because of my sorties lastnight.

I usually fly a 109 G-14 and do alright with that because it's nice and fast but lastnight I was in fighter town and it was a bit a LA7 brothel.

As soon as a La7 got in on my six I had immense trouble shaking it off and this happened several times.

Obviously this is mostly due to my raw flying skills (still my first paid week)....So I'm working on my skills.

Keep in mind that I am quite fond of the Luftwaffe aircraft and I was wondering what the general opinion is on the best LW dog-fighting aircraft. (good turns and stall speeds etc)

Opinions and tips are much appreciated

Thanks for your time

It really depends exactly what you're trying to do,

The 109K-4 is probably the supreme un-perked lw plane.
The 190D-9 is fast, and performs well in a dive.

The earlier 109s(F-4, G-2) are surprisingly good turners.  The 190A-5 is a nice nimble plane.  Both will surprise people expecting the late war models.

Really what I'd suggest is, try them all and find the ones you like the most.

Try taking a 109-F for low-level turny stuff.

Not my area of, ah, "expertise" though.
... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB

aye, the 109F4 is probably one of the best LW turners.

and... the 190a5 will supprise most, as it can turn almost as well as a late 109.

but the problem with La7's is a real one...Why do you think germany lost the war to russia? ;)

Also agree on the 109F. It's not the fastest but in a dogfight it's one of the deadliest planes if flown right. I think too many use the fast rides to avoid dying. Heck with it... die, learn and have fun.

Agreed on all three points.  FWIW, the 109K does a pretty fair job of turnfighting, too.

Dont worry about the dieing, i die all the time and fly for a while now.

As for plane i find the 190A5 and the K4 pretty good. The G14 is verry nice plane too, and its pretty colorfull since it behaves totally diffrent depending on which gun combo you use.

LA7 is a verry good plane... i think below 10k no german plane can match it, you can still outfly the other guy if your lucky or better. Best specific chances has the 190A5 there i think since you can use the fast role. But meet an la7 at 20k with a 109K4 and see him dive for cover....

The 190D-9 (Dora) is a great plane to hone skills in.  I flew it solely for about a month or two as I progressed through the very early stages of life within AH.  It is the fastest plane on the deck besides the LA-7 and the perk planes.  It is well armed, turns well, climbs well, and has fairly good visibility.  It does have a nasty tendency to snap roll in slow manuevering, so beware, and make ready to use your rudder to compensate as needed!

Also, the Dora doesnt compress in high speed dives like the 109s do, which is nice for BnZ kills.

Lately I've been enjoying the 109K, as it seems to fit my preferred fighting styles well.  I just wish it carried like 30 more rounds of the taters!
