Are you ready to Rumble?
« on: September 13, 2006, 04:49:31 PM »
Seeing as nobody ever scrolls down past the usual forums, I bet you've never heard of the Rumble. :D

Rumble III is a rarely-run event dedicated to flight vs flight fights. You and your cagemates will fly the same aircraft versus a group of enemy aircraft in your outer cage. Once the air in your cage has been sanitized, you move to the center cage to begin the all-out rumblefest.

There are six cages, each with it's own planeset. Each cage will need a cage captain for both countries.

There are Allied and Axis teams. Whichever you join, you're sure to have a blast! (Though, sources say the Axis is better.)

The six plane matchups are as follows:
Yak9U vs 109G6
Spit XIV vs TA 152
P51D vs 190D
Ki-84 vs P-38L
P47D11 vs 190A5
Tempest vs Me262

Bump due to the "OMFG NEW ARENA SETUP" posts pushing this down.

the yak9U will so own the 109G6 and that TA can't match the spit 14

109K would be a better match to spit 14 and 109g14 would be a better match to yak9U

It's the pilot, not the plane. :aok We actually chose those matches. The Allied CO picked the top three, I picked the other three. There were already pairs laid out for us, though. We didn't pick "this plane fly versus this," but rather "I want that set."

(My alt advantaged P51 almost got pwned by one of the longtime vets in a TA152. Had I not run away...... :D)

Yeah the plane match-ups are silly

The G-6 entered service in 2-43, the Yak-9u in 8-44 - stupid match-up. G-6 verses the 9T is much more 'believable'

The 2 known combats of the Ta-152 were against the Tempest and Yak-9Us over Berlin. They match the Ta-152 against the Spit 14 - not quite at the stupid level but silly nonetheless...

Ta-152 verses Tempest
Spit 14 verses Fw 190D-9
Spit 16 verses the Bf 109G-14
P-51D verses the Bf 109K-4
P-47D-11 verses the Fw 190A-8 (5 is ok)
I don't care about Pacific planes so whatever...

The first rumble was fun when AH still had a dedicated LW only pilots and squads. The second rumble sucked arse so much so that the LW CO, Hristo, even didn't bother to show-up. 90% of the 'axis' side was filled with guys who didn't know a G-6 from a G-10.

All the best but next time get some one who knows a little about WW2 to do the plane match-ups. These are just as important in building interest as it is pitting Axis verse Allied pilots. There are very few of the the old protagonists to carry the rumble on its own.

You can always tell if a rumble is worth it by the amount of 'fun hate' on the forums beforehand. Seems to me this rumble has been awfully quiet. Even the WB / AH rumble generated more heat.

I believe daddog put together the plane matchups. He's the "CM" for this event.
