What new planes&vehicules for early war arena ?
« on: September 14, 2006, 05:58:55 PM »
All is in the title, what planes and vehs would you guys see in the early arena ?

Think of roles we miss like a TRUE stuka for gv hunting (we got no big caliber planes in there yet), we need also a tank that can compete with the T34....and more :aok

And BTW why the TBM-3 is in there, it saw action in 1942 right ?

Since the T-34 is there, I am assuming '39-'41 and possibly '42 vehicles would be in the early war.  Thus, a representative sample:

Brit:  Matilda II and III (armored, slow) and Crusader (less armor, faster).
Both with 2 lbr and 3inch howitzer variants.
French: Hotchkiss (?) 35 and/or 39 (37mm guns)
German:  Pzkw38(t) or PzkwIII(E) (both w/ 37mm guns), PzkwIV(D) (low velocity 75mm howitzer)
Russia:  T-26, BT-7 (very fast) (both with 45mm guns)
   KV-1 (perked)
If '42 included, M-4 Sherman, M-3 Stuart and PzkwIII(J) (50mm gun).

If HTC can/will code vehicles with bow mounted main armaments:
US: M-3 Lee/Grant, Maybe a halftrack with a 75mm gun.
French Char B1-bis (perked for rarity)
British:  Churchill MK1 (possibly perked due to heavy armor?)
German: StGIII(B).

To replace or suppliment the M-3, we should have a German SPW 251 halftrack (honestly can't remember the correct name for these -- I always called them "spitwads"), and a British Bren Carrier with a capacity of 5 troops.

F4U-1 should be moved to the early war. Entered combat 2/43. There's already birds in that arena that didn't see action until AFTER the Corsair arrived.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

Sax, it would probably have to be perked, don't you think.  Geez the P-38G is--I never thought I'd see the day...

So what? I'd pay it. Then I can have my Hog AND have more options than dying to the same guy over and over again, or dying to a horde.

Im reading the Wikipedia encyclopedia and it says here that f4u was delivered to the navy in 1942, 1943 f6f-3 was around too. the early arena might have to add some blue to the plane set.

P40 had more variants, the n model was the last and best variant and it was flying in 43.

All u guys have everything else i could have though of. Did anybody put down the panther?? i noe that has been one people have been asking for.

Quad 20mm.

More specifically, 2cm Flakvierling 38.

Before the question is asked, the Ostwind has a 3.7 cm FlaK 43.  Bigger range, more punch per shell, but slower rate of fire than the quad mount (obviously).

Panther was introduced in 1943, I would assume it to be a mid-war, not early-war vehicle.  Besides, they are going for "balance" in their set-ups.  You might as well add the Tiger and PzkwIV(H) to the early war if you want a Panther.

Heck, for simplicity sake and as a stopgap, I would accept adding the Panzer H as a perked vehicle in the Early War arena, just to add a little variety.

Looked at HiTech's break down of the eras.  Don't think we'll see a Hog in the early war...  Looks like the cutoff is mid '42

If the break is mid war some plane models we have are border line on the calendar, like TBM-3 and maybe Ju88-A4 (Ju's earlier versions are faster if my memory is good)

As I understand, Stoney, the FW-190A5 is in the early war arena as a Perk, and that was AUGUST 1943.
