The Me-262 had about a .3 thrust to weight ratio and the F-86 about .4 T/W so there's not a significant amount of difference in available thrust.  Problem with jet engines (especially early ones) is the spool-up time (time from idle to maximum RPM) and the fact that they are inefficient at low speeds producing little thrust and why they have relatively poor level acceleration.  For instance, props are much better at accelerating from 0-100 than a non-afterburning jet is, that's why we have afterburners and catapults (and why the USAF loves their 2-mile long runways).  The only advantage the early jets had over props was speed and that's about it.  There's no doubt that the F-86 and MiG-15 were better than the Me-262 in all respects but the differences are relatively small and nothing like the difference between an F-86 and an F-16 (1.1 T/W ratio).

Absolutely right about the speedbrakes, makes a ton of difference with jets, I'm surprised the German's didn't think of them.

LOL Hornet...I didn't, I couldn't since my Dad flew them.  Before Congress forced the Navy to change to the USAF aircraft designations the A-1 was the Douglas AD.  The Navy called it the Able Dog or Spad...don't know how the USAF came up with "Sandy"....sounds a little gay don't u think?  Lol

Oh...BTW....did I mention it could carry a n00k?

If HTC makes a Korea game then they should model "flameouts" on jets.

Did you know that F-105s got 18 times as many gun kills as the F-8s?

It's true, F-105s shot down 36 migs with guns, while F-8s only got two (and 16 with Sidewinders).

So, the top gunfighter in Vietnam was the big 'ol Thud....

Maybe the Korea Arena is what this comment refers to.
I can only hope.

I've been in the game on and off since 2001.
I heard a rumor way back when that HiTech showed
up in the MA in an F-86 once, sort of like he shows
up with his Sleigh and 8 Reindeer around Christmas. ;)

Would love to get confirmation on that.  If thats
true it would suggest that Dale has an interest
in doing something Korean War related.

I would personally LOVE to see a Korean War
arena.  F9F Panther would be my ride first of
choice.  They look neat! :D

Thanks for the reply,

Actually, the 105 got 27.5 A/A Mig kills (24.5 20mm, 2 AIM-9, 1 AIM-9 and guns) and lost 17 to Migs for a kill ratio of 1.6 to 1.  As a ground attack aircraft they also destroyed a number on the ground (Vulchers!) and that's how they claim 36 "kills".

F-8's had 18 kills to 3 losses for a 6.3 to 1 kill ratio, the best of any US fighter in Vietnam.  You're right though, most kills were with AIM-9s.

The number of kills attributed to the 105 is high but given that they flew 20,000 missions over North Vietnam they had a much greater opportunity for kills....of course they also lost 320 planes in the process and their kill per sortie rate was tiny.  Actually, it turns out it wasn't much of a "gunfighter".

The Migs ruled high and the Sabres Drooled low :D  It will b extra exciting to see these top rivals with a slight perk fight each other , even though there were many more jets than WW2  prop planes still flew many sorties, so that
s why I think there should be a slight perk penalty for these two types or as the war progresses there should be the varying degree of improvements made to the sabre and Mig jets with a slight perk increase.

You know, fellas...Not to be a wet blanket:t, I would wait for HTC to give dates and other specifics before getting worked up over a Korean arena. Personally, I think it would be boss(with the appropriate GV's thrown in-think M26, T34/85, M24 chafee) Make it like the AvA, give two sides, and see what happens. But, my guess is, it's a year+ away.
