It's a good... well, quite good turn-based strategy game in full 3D.

I would say it's quite realistic, with troops reacting to enemy fire, huge importance of the terrain, and good multiplayer support.

Just don't expect superb graphics.

It's one of my favourite wargames, but behold! they are working in Combat Mission 2 right now  ;)

This game was supposed to be Close Combat IV (if I remember the number correctly) but Microsoft thought it didn't have the looks they wanted and cancelled the association with the developers, who went on to distribute the game themselves (luckily!)

Since I think it will be sometime until they release CM2, my advice is "buy it!"  :)

It's a phenomenal game that's built around an original design concept and incredible attention to detail.

It also has a thriving community that actively supports the game.  Don't hesitate to buy it.

I like the close combat series (especially the CCIII mods), I'll check this one out.
War! Never been so much fun. War! Never been so much fun! Go to your brother, Kill him with your gun, Leave him lying in his uniform, Dying in the sun.

There is a demo for this... check gamespot or fileplanet - then you will know if you want it or not...  as far as I know, you have to buy it off of the game publisher's site, can't get it in stores.

It's worth it to dish out for the full version for the manual alone (100+ pages).  I would have been completely in the dark about some gameplay aspects had I not read about them there.

Great game, super addictive.
Plus it has Polish armor and airborne units.   :) www.combatmission.com  has some good strategy tips.
And you gotta read the manual of course.
It's amazing to play this game and then read books about small unit combat (e.g. Band of Brothers) because you can picture what's going on and see the "game situation" and understand why one side won or lost in real life.

I love this game. I love making my own missions. Picture a large town with over 1000 Allied troops (Companys, tanks, AAA guns, field guns....ect) then picture a small Axis group with 1 tank (Tiger with ELITE commander) and a group of 10 300mm rocket spotters. Then picture  over 1000, 300mm rockets landing on the town..... what fun  :D  :D

Best small unit tactical game I've ever seen.  The ground level view can really give an excellent impression of what it was like to be under artillery fire (or to wonder what exactly is behind the next hedgerow).  Can't wait for CM2!

S!

Combat Mission is the best Tactical level WWII wargame out there.  Bar none.

The potential for designing custom battlefields and campaigns is almost endless.

If I wasn't such a flight Sim nut I'd be playing CM a lot more.

And the best news is that they will be coming out with a new updated Russian Front version with better graphics.   :)

cc, 10 stars, get it.

There's even a real good free demo version available on their page www.battlefront.com
