Hard to figure these seahawks. They have had success with Alexander on the ground, and the main reason was their offensive line. More to the point, the left side with Walter Jones and Steve Hutchinson. Steve Hutchinson is considered by many to be the best left guard in the business.

Why would they let this critical component of their offensive line walk away in free agency, then trade their first round pick for a 5'-11" receiver and pay him 39 million?

Am I missing something here?

Now,I am not a GM or football guru, and I could be way off, but if alexander's performance in the first game is an indication of things to come, this could be a huge blunder

Yeah I don't get it.  Look at the Raiders to see how much success you have with brilliant WRs and crappy OTs.  Any decent WR can rack up yards if the line is blocking and the QB can throw.

Alexander will be fine.   The Lions have a good defense.    BUT, letting Hutchinson leave was very dumb.   Personally, I see Arizona winning the West this year.

You apparently didn't pay attention when this occured...the Vikes took advantage of a loophole in the NFL contract leagalities and it basically came down to us not being able to counter-offer Hutch with a contract of our own due to our contract with Hutch stating that he'd be the highest paid offensive guard, the Vikes did not have to garantee this. There was a protest by the Seahawks and the NFL is considering on restructuring the legal issues so this won't happen again.  It's called a "Poison Pill" contract. Basically the Seahawk front office did drop the ball by thinking it could match any offer that came up for the Pro Bowl guard and work on a long-term deal behind the scenes. But the Vikings stole Hutchinson with a cleverly worded offer the Seahawks couldn't equal. At least we admit it, rather than say it was the players fault (Hello New England fans!)


We did the same in return with Burelson to the Vikes and stole him away, but it appears the Vikes made out better than we did.

Now, be prepared to see us yet again in the NFC championship game! :D

Seahawks played Arizona yesterday and we were clicking on 4 of our 8 cylinders and still beat them soundly.  We dropped 4 sure-interceptions and our offense sputtered yet we still dominated. Once we begin hitting all 8 cylinders (hopefully next week vs GIants) I'll be able to sleep at night once agian!  Adding the Patriots Pro-bowler to the starting line up next week will certainly help our offense production. :D

We did record something like 6 or 7 sacks against the heaviest avg. weight offense line (Arizona) in the NFL, Julian Peterson was a prime-time pick up in the off season and our defense is better than last year. :aok

So in the end, they decided not to match the offer, then pay 39 million to a 5-11 receiver, and trade away their first round pick. Choose your poison I guess

Sorry, I meant Superbowl MVP.

For the Seahawks, Branch provides some insurance for Darrell Jackson, who is coming back from knee surgeries. I think its worth the money.  We still have Walter Jones on left tackle, he gave up 2 sacks last year on the left side, and Womack is filling in nicely for Hutch. We'll certainlymiss Hutch, but I don't think it will have as much impact as New England losing a Superbowl MVP star receiver (from my perspective anyway)

Burelsons pretty decent. give him time.

Actually the O Line play of the Vikes has been a cheif complaint with reguards to the Viking runnins game.
For the money they are paying for the left side of the line. It should be much more productive. Not through any fault of Steve Hutchinson. He seems to be playing great.

Will have to see how they do as the season progresses and the line gels better.

Did seem like a screwy deal though. But I gotta give kudos to the new Viking organisation for pulling this one.

After the draft day blunder a couple years ago and especially the Hershal Walker debacle

Vikes are my "2nd team" since I'm from there, Go Vikes! (Except when you play Seattle!) :)  Burelson dropped 2 passes yesterday, you can have him back now that we got Branch. :D
