This forum has gone beyond off-topic.  So much so that it drowns out any 'relevant' off topic discussions.  I don't mind the political debates although the endless cycle gets tiring, but it is stepping on everything else.  Perhaps we need an off-off-topic forum for these types of discussions.  Regardless, check your flamethrowers at the door.  The thing I hate about political discussions is that while they may start out as intellectual discussions, they rarely end that way.  The Rush Limbaugh and James Carville wannabes flock to the argument like moths to a campfire and that's all your left with in the end, just a bunch of bickering demagogues spouting mindless propaganda.  And even that doesn't really matter as long as it's kept civil among participants.  But if it can't be kept civil, then it's not in our interest to host these discussions, so keep it civil.

Let me know if you think a secondary off-topic forum would help stratify things a bit better.

Pyro,

Yes please.

Even I can hardly stand the message boards these day's. It is turning friends into enemies and even more so, turning my relaxation into frustration. I am even ready to deal with more C-hog whining.

So please add another off topic thread just for political bantering so I can get back to the business of enjoying my spare time.

Thanks
F4UDOA

Well, I thought this WAS the O/T area.

Sort of hard to decide which topics are "too off topic" unless you intend to put out a little guidance.

For example if we have 2 O/T areas, which discussions go where?

Whatever.... the BBS is on HTC's server. Do it the way you like.

Yah gotta admit though...the H/O, LW, C-hog, Hispano and FM whines have sure died down since people started venting frustration with the world here instead!

It is the off-topic forum right now, but it has become such a political forum that no other off-topic thread can exist very long in here before it gets buried.  I don't have anything against these discussions as long as they're kept civil, but perhaps everybody would be better served by another forum.  Since these types of discussions are things you either specifically want to read or don't want to read, it seems logical to me.  As to what the guideline would be as for what goes where, I don't know yet but it's not a big deal if most people can agree.

I have been as guilty as any, and will no longer post in the forum. My apologies, I did think this was the appropriate forum.

As for the tone of the debate, there are two things you can seldom discuss peacefully; religion and politics. These are the core beliefs of everyone, and of course tempers flare. I am an even-tempered person on most accounts, but in my core beliefs I am solid and will not waver. Better to say nothing than to compromise my beliefs.

Maybe have 'The O'club' and 'The O'club (religious politics)'

All the political and relgious type threads would go in the religious politics board, and all other OT stuff in the The O'club

Does that mean the cheerleaders with the flaming pom poms will have to move to another OT bbs as well?
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN

Heyas Pyro,

I don't think it's that big of an issue, actually. We've gotten to kind of know one another through AH, there is an historic situation occuring, and we're just discussing it with people we've come to respect.

Hell, I actually think it's healthy.

This will blow over. Fortunately, it is certainly not spilling over into the Arena.

If you create a forum called "politics" or what-not, that would be OK. But I suspect this is only a temporary thing.

I've actually kind of enjoyed the discussions recently. I've managed to learn a few things, and see the points of view from other vantage points. It's impossible for everyone to agree on some issues, but that's what makes it a debate. The arguments have become rather heated, but no one has resorted to "yo momma so fat" replies YET

I have found "the O club" to be one of the best forums there is. Even though I still only play WB, I have found this forum to be better than any of the iEN/AGW forums. I could almost play AH based on the people in this forum alone

That aside I am not an AH player and will refrain from posting in the future since much of what I have posted is rather "out there", hehe.

Salute AH, still lurking but not posting (well I'll try anyway)

Pyro, what we need in here are more Liberals to counteract all the right-wingers in here. If you can't supply us with any, I suggest you rename this forum to the "Rush Limbaugh Forum". Hehe, I feel like a Salmon swimming upstream in here.

On a positive note, this is the most fun I've had on the AH BBS in a long, long time. Actually, this forum is no more repetative that the General Discussion forum, and it's a whole lot more fun. And if guys like Crabby would stop being so reactionary, we might even get some decent, rational debate going.

A seperate political forum would be fine with me, though.

Historically speaking, in ready rooms, pilots talked about things in this order:

Women
Jokes
Political happenings (Usually regarding the war)

So, that being said...I'm sure you haven't read every one of my posts, but I stress to keep it civil, attack the politicians, not each other, and I've posted my recommendations of finding non-partisan ground where  all  parties can start reconciling differences rather than draw a line in the sand.

Sure, you'll always have the 'flamer' walk thru the door, no different than a busy bar when the inevitable beligerent drunk comes in and sits  down...but I think most here  have done a pretty good job restraining themselves from an all out personal attack on one another.

I've learned a few things, I've even reconsidered changing my view points about a  few things, its help me understand how the other side feels.

But hey, your board, your forum, I'll stop posting politics if thats what you wish.

I think a separate forum would be a bad idea, since that would be a green light for some to really make personal attacks on political matters more  so than this forum.  The beauty of a forum like this is one post may be a funny joke, the next a political post, and the one after that a review of a new sim out on the market, its full of diversity.

Personally, I'm done.

As this forum is pretty much useless anyway, it doesn't inform as much as it inflames. It won't change anyones loyalty, you are what you are, you believe what you believe.

As for the election, may the best lawyer, er man win..

Back to AH and da planes...
