Yep, over a pound of weed and a bunch of magic mushrooms would put an everyday joe in the calaboose for possession with the intent to sell, that's not a citeable offense and requires booking and a bail hearing.

I like Willie and I like MJ, but there are many prople rotting in jail for the very same offense. That isn't right.

Weed in LA in any amount is a slap on the wrist (no "intent of distribution" law either)

Since when weren't they able to?  Michigan State Police have an entire Motor Carrier division for doing just that.

CHP can inspect any vehicle they like, but they usually leave the commercial vehicles to a handful of officers in each office who specialize in commercial vehicle enforcement.  Easy to recognize, they're the ones who usually drive the (almost) unmarked stealth cop cars.

But any CHP traffic officer can do certain compliance checks almost anytime, especially if they witness a moving violation or compliance issue.  If they get too many complaints because they're harassing people, they'll get slapped down by the Sgt for causing trouble.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.
