Sea Furys seem to dominate nowadays.

Do they use Centaurus or R-2800 in those Sea Furys?

Ah, a little Googling and it appears that at least the "September Fury " has a R-3350.

The one that caught my attention was the FM2 "Air Biscuit". Now how do you suppose he will do against Strega, Rare Bear, or the other big hitters.

All of the Furies Sea Furies use r 3350's except for Dreadnought, she uses the mighty r4360 corn cob motor

Very few have there original engines as they dont hold up to hot roding and parts can be a cast iron -itch to find

The results are all listed at the link I posted.

The FM-2 was running the 6 laps at a 280MPH clip.

The fastest heat the F2G ran was 370MPH.

I believe the Sea Fury's are running mostly Bristol Centarus, Dreadnought is running a R-4360 like the F2G and September Fury the Winner this year which is a work of art is running a fuel injected R-3350-93. The same race team also runs "Big Bossman" the F7F racing at Reno.

None of the Furies at Reno use the Centarus, all are equiped with Wright R-3350 engines. to the best of my knowledge there are only 3 Centarus powered Furies in the USA (Sanders Bros dads Furie being restored) Elswoerth Getchal (Spelling?) currently flying with Centarus, one other with the Centarus dont know of flying status, another 4360 Furie is Furias- currently for sale

an easy way to tell whitch engine is on board is if it has 4 bladed prop its a R-3350, 5 Blades Bristol Centarus, Plus the Centarus turns backwards from R-3350

One of my neighbors has a Sea Furry. It's a super awesome ride. We he does a flyby, you know it!

I was at the races. The Super Corsair had a lot of problems--didn't complete a lap in either of the Saturday or Sunday races. I was disappointed I didn't get to see him tear it up.

Big Bossman is a sight (and sound) to see. It is without a doubt the most beautiful aircraft in the circuit. I don't know what it is about twin R-2800's, but it sounds more mean than any of the hot rodded planes. Dang thing is basically stock and still ran competitively in the silver unlimited. It'd be awesome to see what it would be capable of if it was modified with all the drag reduction that could be done. But, then it would ruin the otherwise pristine and most choice aircraft that it is.

Just about all the Ponies blew up. I saw one merlin engine with a hole blown through the bottom of the case you could stick your foot in. Threw a rod or something. I guess that's what happens at 100+ manifold pressure...Rare Bear also blew a piston. Lots of metal in the engine--its trashed. They auctioned off the piston. Looked like somebody hit it on the edge with a sledge hammer.

I've got some pictures coming to me--I'll see if I can't post 'em.

I believe the lateral instability was the increase in size of the rudder. the overheating was a chnage in the design of the airscoop on the front of the cowl.

I've seen numbers as high as an estimated 120" on the merlins. I'm sure they go higher since no one gives away trade secrets. I think the radials are starting to take their toll on the Merlins. Dago went through 2 engines last weekend. Didn't make the final. Pretty incredible when you think wartime power was capped around 70".

Yes, the F2G only had the bubble canopy in production. Goodyear actually put the bubble on the FG-1(F4U-1) as well although it never went into production on that airplane.
