Recently while clicking around Duh and I ran across a forum topic about runways. They wanted to know if it was possible to get lights onto runways for night-time flying. I said, "I can try to do this for my next Airport Map" and went ahead and asked Duh if he wanted to join the project. He accepted my invitation, and now I am extending that invitation to all you other 3-D designers for Aces High.
Here are the main issues between the formats being used to make this project come to life.
Duh uses AC3D and I use the 3-D Blender. Although they both can export using AC3D, they don't have the same features, so this might make things a bit complicated when sharing information with one another.
Here is what we are trying to accomplish:
1. Make a light housing
2. Make it a pure color that will look good at night time
3. Animate the color so it flashes through use of going from 100% alpha to 50% and back.
4. If possible, make the object so when it is detonated it illuminates and begins the light show.
5. Since the object would illuminate upon detonation, we would have to place all the individual light objects into one object which runs the stretch of the runway.
6. The object's animation would have to run so the lights dim in a "domino" affect. Where the front set dims first on it's way to 50% alpha, then the row behind it, and so and so forth.
Although it sounds difficult, it's much more fun knowing it will be used and appreciated. I have no objections that this runway object be put up for downloading in the future so all terrain designers may use this to make Free Multiplayer, SEA, or any other terrain for any type of arena.
Once again, anyone willing to give some of their time on helping to design and eventually build this 3-D object would be greatly appreciated.
