Yeah, Boroda, I have heard, as a matter of fact.  That(greatly simplified) description was given by the Good Doctor, not me.  You must be an Engineer, because you are missing the forest for the tress.  Sure, it takes what you say to develop a Nuclear Inventory, or reliable, deliverable, weapons, but for a down and dirty one, all you need is are the actual spheres, the rest is easy(relatively speaking, of course).

Edit-Let me put it a different way.  To develop a missile capable of traveling 5000 miles and hitting a 100yard target would require many millions of dollars, if not billions, right?

Bin Laden's nuclear secrets found
 http://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/0,,2001390014-2001395995,00.html

seems almost like a setup ... "Attempts had been made to burn the evidence, but many documents still remained. "

I'd think something as big as this would have been top priority unless it was meant to be discovered..by whoever planted by whoever.

Minus, I don't care what people believe, if they want to scare themselves untill their pants get wet, and journalists who are barely literate help them - there's no problem, especialy if that people live 10000km from me. I am quite calm, watching a scientific nuclear reactor from my window at work every day.

I studied at the "Physics and Technology of Explosives" branch of Moscow High Technical College (Baumanskiy) for four years. I wan't a good student, but I remember basic things quite good. Now I am an engineer in Chemical Physics Institute, Russian Academy of Science. This institute was one of the Soviet "defencive" science monsters, and covered nuclear research and explosives technology. Sorry for this boast   :)

Explosive processes are a very delicate and in many cases unpredictable thing. Many practical results are very strange and some small things can absolutely change an effect of the explosion.

One "baika": Back in Soviet times there was a problem discovered with anti-tank cumulative (hollow-charge) shell, produced at one of the weapon factories. Absolutely identical shells made on other plants worked OK, but shells from this particular plant didn't penetrate armour at all. The shells were carefully studied and it became clear that the penetration stream didn't form! The cause was that on that plant someone "improved" the process of forming the cumulation funnel: the plunger that formed it rotated, and caused afterstrain in the funnel.

Such a small influence caused such a significant effect...

The devices that are used to monitor the process of detonation are extremely expencive and delicate. Imagine the camera that films the explosion, making more then a million frames per second! I doubt that "terrorists" will ever  be able to get such equipment. All that talks about two dynamite sticks and a photo-flash are very funny.

AFAIU - what they found in Kabul were just conspects from school physics text books.

If you want more "baikas" - I can tell you a great Soviet secret about a T-72 turret structure   ;)

But you did not answer my question, Mr Engineer:  How many hundreds of millions of dollars, if not hundreds of billions, would it take to design and manufacture a missile capable of hitting a target 5000 miles away?
