My biggest problems with any map are the distances between bases and from spawn points to town/base.
Consider the new FT map. Most of the spawn points are so far from the town that few gv'ers engage in tank fights near airbases. All of the tank fighting takes place in that ring of vbases around FT. The only vehicles you see near an airbase on that map are M3's running troops.
Personally, the lack of maps will cause me to cancel subscription faster than anything else. I absolutely despise Mindanao, Furball Island (now known as TT, idk what the real name is) and 'Teddy Bear' (I refuse to call it by the most commonly heard term).
Those are the only maps in use at this time, and I hate them with a passion.
They are terrible maps for GV's. They are terrible maps for a2a. Those of us who've been playing for a few years hate all of the older maps simply because we've spent so much time on them. I could draw a sketch map (with ranges between barns and bushes) for nearly every base on any map -- thats how many times I've sat in a tank defending them. I can tell you which blown-out windows will allow a good view of the maproom, and where I can sit and lob shells over a hill to hit hangars without being seen.
You'd think I'd be happy with my advantage over newer players. Axtually, its boring and not much fun at all. I cope by getting in an airplane and flying around looking for a fight. Recently, I've actually been upping bombers and attack planes to hit strat targets. Wow, thats a lot of fun

, but its better than 'spawning out to 5' for the 1500th time, or 'camping the hillside at 5' for the 1000th.
PLEASE make a new map NOW!!!!!! I don't care if I hate it too, it'll be new for awhile and thats more fun than another godawful week on Mindanao.
On a related note: Where can I find a 'quick start' guide to using the terrain editor? I've tried a couple times and don't know where to start. I finally read some of the help file (determined to figure it out) but thats apparently out of date. (The location of the template .bmp grid files does not exist under the HTC folder, nor do the templates as far as I can tell)
I'd love to work on a map. I need a step by step 'hello world' type example to get me started with the tools.
