Still, the numbers ought to be around somewhere. It's just so damned politcally incorrect to ask environmentalists to back up their claims, it makes it really tough to dig up numbers that show how inefficient solar panels really are.
About the only modern technology that gets out more than you put in is nuclear power plants. There are a bunch of wind and ocean tidal experiments that appear to be energy-positive, but all the big environmental activists block those technologies on the NIMBY platform (Not In My BackYard) because they look ugly. Refer to the So-Cal referendum on offshore wind power farms that died because rich hollyweird personalities opposed clean wind power in areas they could actually see out their own windows. Not In My BackYard is a powerful political message in Calif when it comes to environmental issues.
