Americas Army *WARNING*
« on: September 23, 2006, 08:44:18 AM »
The latest 2.5 Gigabyte 2.7 version release is a bloated load of crap filled with bugs.

I downloaded it, installed it and as a result cannot play AAO anymore. The new version messed up the server browser screen, you cannot set filters anymore, despite the 2.5 Gig download you need to separately load certain maps (and the map download is buggy -> won't load diddly ****) etc. etc.

So do yourself a favour and stay with 2.6 untill they patch it a few times.

Thanks for the warning.  I downloaded an earlier version from Australia (after a local recruiter promised to get me a disk but didn't ... tsk tsk).

It was interesting, but I soon gave it up after getting thoroughly whacked every time I'd go on line.  Soldiering is a tough job!

Often wondered whether America's Army improved recruiting as it was designed to or scared off potential recruits.

Yes the hacks are rampant but at least PB cut the majority of them off. For a good 6 months all servers were filled with hackers despite of PB but now things calmed down again a bit and only the not-so-apparent hacks still exist. Or it's player skill, it's hard to say sometimes.

I'm quite good with saw and I've been accused a few times, which I take as a compliment.

I just read that 2005 was the highest enrollment year for the Army since 1997.

I just got a disk. I was told to remove the other Americas Army first, and delete all the files of it, then install the new one.

I'm sure that had something to do with better benefits and such--nothing to do with a game.  hehehe

America's Army is probably the most hacked game ever. Even more so then CS. PB is almost useless. The best of the hacks are the ones you will almost never notice. I am not one of those 'every one cheats' when I die so don't mistake my point. I could fill this thread with links to working AA hacks but I won't. AA can be fun if you play on 'good servers' with known folks.

What they should do is stop the 'mega-patches' and get away from the 2.X Unreal Engine. AA 3.0 should be on the UE 3.0 but who knows how far off that is or how many more 2.XX patches there will be...

Maybe its a secret program that alerts the local recruitment office of your skills. Better watch out or you will be getting a notice to report to boot camp in 2 weeks  :noid

Heh mouse pointing and pressing W is pretty far off from regular life. It's far more beneficial to shoot out paintballs in camo gear.

But I have to admit that by playing AAO you get a sense of tactical advance routes and using cover. Other than that it's just mouse clicking.

Well I finally managed to get the thing working through uninstall / reinstall and I also figured out the lame new filter selection they added.

Only to find out my A64 3000+ with 1 Gig ram and X800XT Radeon runs the thing at 30fps and freezes more in action. All detail settings set to low.

I guess it's time to get (yet) another gaming machine.

I was liking better as I learned the ins and outs, but as only dialup is available at my locale, even 180 ping often kills the game

you HAVE to uninstall 2.6 prior to installing 2.7 and yes it's a little bloated but the browser and filters work just fine.  It's just a little different than before.

I love the addition of the vehicles and the javlin.  Some of the new maps are a real challenge and the situational awareness map I'm still on the fence about.

If you really want to enjoy the game my advice to anyone would be to join a clan that has their own server.  My clan has 2 26 slot servers and is getting a 3rd one this month.

Everyone in the clan has admin rights so you can change the map or forceclass and if there's somone on the server that's rude or whos playing is questionable.....hit F12 and select them and kick them.  It's that simple.

I just started playing AA again last year and have grown to really like it.  The hacks really arent as bad as it seems and there is groups like AASA and such that have done a good job tracking hackers and banning them.  We currently run three different ban lists in our scripts and if you are on one of them it is REALLY hard to get off.

I think it'd scare peopel off, why join the Army when you can have a virtual war, and not die in real life?
