So... Are any of you old timers playing Dungeon & Dragons Online?

Yah Yah, most of you don't have a clue who I am, but some of you crusty old farts might remember me

I haven't flown much in the past couple of years, but marriage and a new baby (1 yr old last week!) will do that to you.

I have been trying out the 7 day free trial of DDO with my 10 yr old stepson and I was wondering if any of the AH guys were playing or had any guilds? As with any MMO any help from established players helps out immensly.

Now yer a Daddy Verm .. not to worry .. you can catch up on yer sleep in a coupla years -evil grin-

21 months old? .. got everything dangerous or that you want to keep unbroken/un-peanutbuttered put away or up by now I bet

(remembers daughter slidin her peanut butter sammich into the VCR, was a great fit)

I played DDO from release till a few days ago ..*cancelled* both my accts.

It started out fairly good .. they do excellent dungeons, but as you gain levels (10th is cap right now) .. the time it takes to go thru a series of dungeons required to get to the 'boss' goes up exponentially, the loot stays about the same as you will see at 5th level, the 'boss' mobs get just plain stupid defenses (ie: a Red Dragon with Ice Flenser, Elementals, and Mephit guards that teleport right into the midst of your party alongside the Dragon, all of them, all at once .. excuse me?) ..and D&D rules go by the wayside.

The devs have decided the rare weapons (vorpal blades, banishing bows an the like) are unobtainable .. 'play balance' .. ie: it's far too much fun to have one. They act as if they own them, and arent givin em up. Even if you do see someone with one from the early days .. if you roll a D20 for a crit, you have to roll another D20 to verify that it was indeed, a crit .. ROFL.

I decided the devs make terrible DM's .. they can keep their Vorpal Nerf Bats.

DDO aint for me, i like phantasy mmorpgs... But DDO has no player vs player combat... So i wont touch it.

you can reach me by email at verm at vermin dot net. Aparently DDO is based upon the new 3.5 rules set and then is modified for online play. Hell... when I started playing, you had "Basic" and "Advanced", no fargin XX.XX

If your interested, there is a free 7 day trial for the game to see if you like it. So far I'm somewhat impressed but admittedly I've been away from MMO's for a very long time. My guy I've been playing for a couple of nights (just an hour or so at a time, mostly figuring out the interface) is a nearly 2nd lvl Paladin on Ghallenda server.

How's life treating you? How did you end up in Phoenix and are you still doing 3D work? If you decide to reactivate your accounts let me know. I would love to party up some with you. I am surprised you would cancel your accounts with the new Mod 3 expansion packs coming out in a week or two. It sounds like DDO is a lot like EQ in the nerfing department. I was hoping that sense they follow D&D rules that a lot of the play balance issues and such would not be there. Admitttedly, I'm only seeing it from a very low level. At least they have addressed the camping problem (or so it seems) from EQ. I was somewhat drawn by the fact that you could play just a little here and there and not have to "live" in the game like UO and EQ, because I have little free time anymore.

Maniac: They are adding PvP in the new module coming out in October. But its not the ambush and gank style that most hard core PvP's want. Its limited to "Gladiator Pits", "Tavern Brawls", and maybe one or two specific areas in the new content.
