Looking for pics...
« on: September 26, 2006, 04:42:22 PM »
I'm still working on my Corsair skins, and I'd like to knock out another couple -1s, and maybe a few 1Ds before submitting them.

I'm working on a F4U-1D right now, with "pinup" noseart. She's from VMF-511, called "Daisy Jane" I've got most of her done, but what I can't find is a useable image of the nose art.

She's the top bird, White 82.

Also, I'd LOVE to do a Boyington Corsair. I know that at one point the Black Sheep WERE flying birdcage -1s, but the only ones I can find pics of online were the 1As attributed to Boyington. If anyone knows of pics of some Black Sheep Birdcage Hogs I'd greatly appreciate them.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

Aircraft of the Aces "Corsair Aces of WWII" has pictures of two of Olander's -1 aircraft.  He states in the text that the squadron tended to "borrow" other squadrons aircraft routinely, so it may be hard to find a -1 aircraft attributed to Pappy.  Olander states that he flew the -1 exclusively his whole tour with 214.  The pictures included of Boyington with a plane are all -1A's.

Jane. June. Whatever. I just need a pic of the noseart I can use for the skin.

Somewhere I saw a photo of Boyington in the cockpit of a Birdcage, but I can't even find THAT one now.

This is the only pic I've been able to find so far, not much help I'm afraid. :(

I'll keep looking.

EDIT- Just found this model, for sale here

Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

Thanks, although I'd need a pretty straight-on shot of the nose art that I can paste into the skin.

I didn't think they'd be much help, but all I could find. Still looking though...

ROFLMAO, look at the noseart on the pics of the remodeled F4U-1D on the HTC main site.

Looks like somebody beat you to that one Sax.

Oh well Sax,

Just think about how much fun we'll have doing all the other skins on the thing
