October's FSO
« on: September 29, 2006, 12:27:34 PM »
Okay guys I will get the write up for the next FSO up tonight or tomorrow (have to put into the AHevents.org site). Here is the unofficial info so you guys know what is coming up and what to start thinking about.

First off Aleutians is not ready. So my whole thought about Pacific Flames or doing the Countdown to Midway FSO is put on hold.

Instead we are going to do 1942: Invasion Burma.

There will be some special rules in place;

SPECIAL RULES
• I have received permission from Nefarious to go back to the previous system of handling plane assignments. By this I mean we are NOT using the 50/50 rule where only large squads can fly two plane types and then must split it equally 50/50 between those two planes.

Instead I am assign a minimum number of planes that must be flown for each plane type and a maximum number that can be flow per each flame type.

ie. P40B = no minimum, 15 maximum
i.e. TBM-3 = 15 minimum, 30 maximum

Each CiC can then deploy his planes any way he wants:

i.e. Squad X, fly 8 TBM-3s, and 10 Hurricane MK1s, and 2 P40Bs (used as scouts).

As long as the CiCs deploy the mimimum they are told per plane and don't go over any max limits the rest is up to them.

  • I am giving the CiCs the power to call the frame. If one sides blows out the other side (60 planes flying vers 5 planes) and if both CiCs agree to call the frame it can be ended earlier. Nobody likes beating up on another side for close to an hour, 30 minutes, etc. with no opposition.

So now I am giving permission to close the frame early if both sides agree the fighting is really over.

  • Objectives will be sent to all squads on a side so that every squad is aware of what their side is trying to do for a frame and can start to rally their pilots, train in specific planes, and get ready for the frame. The CiC is charge of putting together the actual battle plan still and assigning squads to specific planes, etc.

PLANESET

    ALLIES
    • F4F-4 (sub for Bufallo and only using 4 gun package)
    • Hurricane MK1
    • P40B (limited 15, represents the AVG in Rangoon)
    • TBM-3 (sub for Blenheims)

NOTE: In the case of the F4F-4 you probably note I said 4 gun package. I have no way as a CM to enforce this but ask all squads to use the 4 gun package for immersion and to give the feel of the scenario. Even if people do use the 6 gun package when assigned the F4F-4 (I mean Bufallo ;) ) the A6M2 is still a match for it. So the 4 gun is based on the honor system and is meant to give more a flavor of the actual time period and battles.

    IJAAF
    • A6M2
    • D3A
    • B5N2 (pilots flying this get 2 lives)
    • JU88 (sub for IJAAF med & heavy bombers of the period).

NOTE: IJAAF had limited bomber resources in the actual invasion (even if better than the allies) so formation will be off to help simulate this. D3As, while they have weak forward guns are actually able to dog fight quite well and do have a chance against this plane set which is why no 2nd lives for them. If proven otherwise in frame 1 that can be changed in other frames.
So start thinking of what side you will want to play now, your committment levels, etc.  I will inform everybody once they can sign up via the AHevents.org website.

    Re Rules:

Thank flaming goodness.  Chance of building some interest again.
I get really really tired of selective realism disguised as a desire to make bombers easier to kill.
