I like him. I hope this means a tight U.S. , Russian relationship in the future. It could mean alot for world stablity and the ablity to focus more on problems such as disease, famine etc rather than nukes. Lets hope it works out.

P.S. I've read that the Russian economic situation is improving and the Russian people are rapidly catching on to the free market economy...
Of course, I only see what he posts here and what he does in the MA.  I know virtually nothing about the man.  I think its important for people to realize that we don't really know squat about each other.... definately not enough to use words like "hate".

Okay... so you got me on semantics. He seems different from the standard Russian leader we've seen in the past...

Russia is a vast region of untapped potential.  Due to their unique history, Russians are, IMHO, capable of thinking 'outside the envelope' better than anyone else in the world.  It's all just a matter of coming up with enough stability to focus the startling genius that is inherently Russian.

Yea... Czarism followed by Communism. Both where certianly bastions of free thinking and thinking outside the envelope. They encouraged both as can be seen from thier history...

They'll be fine, if thier government stays the course.

Russia will be a super power again some day. They have all the ingrediants and the will to do so. With a vast amounts of natural resources and a large eductated population they need only the democratic foundation and economic reforms to do so. Being friendly with the west is a much quicker path to sucsess then being unfriendly. Putin seems to be a very sharp leader.

just my opinion

You don't understand what I mean.  As a human being, if you live your life within an inefficient, closed society, then you will have to think 'outside the envelope' to make ends meet.  In fact, your life will require such thinking on a daily basis.
