More splash for bang
« on: October 03, 2006, 10:34:39 AM »
(1) I don't know if its my graphic settings or what, but I can't see any dirt flying when those 8" shells make contact with mother earth. Having been around artillery and such, it is a little tough to "adjust fire" on a flicker of a pixel. Can we get something that resembles an artillery shell exploding when it impacts the ground? You know, dirt being thrown up a few hundred feet or so, and lingering in the air until it settles back to the ground. I can see splashes in the sea, and hits on ships-which look good, so how about some good old dirt and bodies and vehicle parts and.......oh well, being thrown around.

(2) Craters. if you're going to have craters, then lets make em impassable. landing and taking off through crater holes is a little laughable.

(3) If I "bail" out of my vehicle/plane on my in my own "country", on my own airfield, etc., then why am I ding for a "ditch"? Come on, that is pretty lame in anybody's game. Knock it off. Give us some credit.

Keep up the good work.

On point 1...I can't agree more.

Impassable craters would make neutralizing an airfield way too easy

I know....I can completely destroy an aircraft on landing and be considered succesful...but come in dead stick and not be able to brake before the end of the runway........

well, some things you have to put up with.

I know, life's not fair...blah, blah, blah, etc., but we should not be penalized for "bailing" on our own turf!! Makes no sense. A track gets shot off, your not on YOUR pad and its a ditch. Sorry, no habla AH I guess.

Life may not be fair, but we don't need to make it unfair for what is on the face and silly rule.

I agree with your request but I think HiTech addressed this at the Con (you could check the Podcasts)

Essentially, the amount if data you'd have to compute would be enormous.  I'm sure HiTech or Pyro can state it more accurately.

Roger, understood. No reply necessary. Was not at "CON". No more comment on craters required or requested. My apologies to the Big Guy.

how about a speed limit of 15mph over craters?

yes on the dirt stir thingy would make aiming a trifle easier.

and no to bailing out of A/C on ground for a landed kill, you could land on concrete at a vehicle base get in the map room, kill a hundred troops then land after base retake...or some other such nonsense, Hey LYNX where are you dude?

Okay, your average tank has about 80 rounds.

That's 80 possible craters, per tank.

A single set of Lanc's gets what... 16x1000lb x3 ships?

Everytime one hit you'd have to load a new crater object.

Now, to keep the game from grinding to a halt, you'd have to remove craters after they hit a cap per sector.... so you'd end up with people who were hull down in a crater, having it magically disappear on them... or people weaving around craters magically losing their cover.

Just not worth the performance impact until everybody is packing 3 or 4ghz cpu's & higher end video cards that can cope with truly massive amounts of 3d objects.
