Hiya,
Yep Saltty i live right near a beach here in North Wales (Prestatyn)
Lol  Floats that sure would be interesting :-)
As for my engine it's about as best as i can get it, i realise with the more time it runs the sweeter it should get (hopefully)

Thanks for reply

ps...let ya's know on any developments of the untoward kind (crashes, prop dropping off, crashes etc etc)  lol  but hopefully with all the great tips i've gotten things should be ok

Have Fun

Something I forgot in my previous "tips" post...  Always always always check prop nut tightness before the first flight of the day, and after any engine-related incidents.  If the engine backfires, taps the prop on the ground, or whatever, pull the spinner off and recheck the nut tightness.

Just because the prop nut was tight the day before doesn't mean it's tight the next day.  Some spinners are a total pain to remove and replace, but believe me it's much much better to take a few minutes before the first flight than to lose an eye or something.

Yes, I learned this first hand.  I had the prop of an OS 70 Surpass 4-stroke come off while I was starting it.  The motor backfired while I was starting it the first time that day after flying a dozen flights the day before, and it threw the prop and spinner past my head at warp 2.  Yes I was wearing safety goggles, but it still would have left a hell of a mark if it had hit me.  The spinner has 2 hex bolts holding it on, and I was just too lazy to pull them to check that day.  Now, before every day of flying, I pull the spinner, loosen the lock nut, check the main nut, then retighten the lock nut.

I should have known better of course...  2 years earlier I had a 2 stroke engine throw the prop inflight.  I shut it down before it ruined the engine (amazingly it kept running without the prop until I shut it off), but I never did find the spinner or prop nut.

Better safe than sorry eh?

Ok guys, give HiTech a ration of crap about getting his AeroBrick....err Aerobat airworthy. We bought these things to do some RC combat with and even after I drug mine down to the office after I built it, HT hasn't gotten out of the starting blocks yet.

These things should be a riot. It's an ARF from Duraplane, weighs way more than it should, and we've seriously overpowered them. They should have the flight profile of the F4 Phantom, fast with no glide ratio.

Seriously if some of you guys are coming to the con and we have the time, we'll take a trip out to the flying field to see if we can hook you on another bad habit <g>

DuraBrick?  What an excellent concept!  You can crash that thing into a brick wall and the airframe wont be fazed!  While you replace the $300 of onboard equiptment you destroyed in the crash, you think "Man, I'm sooo glad I'm not one of those losers that has to repair his airplane, my PVC and foam craft will never die!  I am the king of RC!  Mwahahahahaha!  Ok SharkBait, was that good enough?

I have a confession to make.  I own a Durabrick...an old original made by Duracraft (before GP took over this excellent invention).  It was given to me, I swear!  Anyways, I'm in the process of converting it to low-wing format.  I flipped the fuse over and used my Dremel tool to cut a wing saddle in the bottom.  My aileron servo is now enclosed in the fuselage, and I quickly installed dowels for the wing-hold rubberbands.  I bought a 10" Sig WWII style canopy for it that I will fix in place on top of the fuselage, and epoxied a ply landing gear mount to the PVC just in front of the wing.  I am yet to install the firewall or engine, or fuel-compartment hatch.  I'm curious to see how this beast of a deformed Duraplane flies with my good 'ol SuperTigre 51.  I maintained the basic position of the wing in relation to the tail, and the tail incidences and all, so I'm hoping that it will fly well when I finally get around to finishing it.  First comes my Hobby Lobby SuperCub, Wing mfg. T-6, Sig Tri-Star, and the repair of my Porterfield wreck.  Oh well, it'll fly someday

DuraBricks....*****Shutter*****

For some of my RC pics, go here:   http://www.aps.anl.gov/~figure9/Gallery/Jungmeister

You will notice that I make a fine wreck of some of my planes.  I'm seriously not a bad pilot, I just don't know when to quit.  Take that Fazer for example, never try a full-throttle lomcevak when you have a ST51 strapped on...the wings gained a whole lot of dihedral all of a sudden and the poor thing flopped it's way back to terra firma

For those of you who are into funfly types, I have written a review of my "Wildest Cat" and it can be found at  http://www.netradiocontrol.com

LOL,

My crashing experience is limited compared to you I admit <eg> but I've only lost one engine in a crash. All servos are easily rebuilt and if you protect the reciever right, it's fine :P

BTW, I'm talking about the AH con here in the Dallas area.

Maybe I haven't been looking in the right areas, but I haven't heard a thing about an AH con and I live less than 2 hrs from Dallas.  Is Gryf in on the con planning?  If so, shame on him for not keeping me in the loop

Is there a plan posted up somewhere?  Dates?  What's the scoop?  Who's running it?  Is this the result of Bojc's con plan or a separate effort?

Inquiring pigs want to know.

Man! I am going to HAVE to attend a con, if you guys are into combat!   I've been flying R/C since 1968. I've flown everything from U/C to R/C Heli's. I don't have quite the midair plane you guys have, but my Little Stick has it's share of kills.   Well, it's not really a Little Stick. I built a low-profile fuse for it, and strapped a YS 61 RE and pipe to it. heh

Hmm, air combat at an AH con. I like!
