Mentioned in a couple of books. I'm at work now, no access to them.

I remember at least one book mentioning a K98.

As for the German military at the time, the standard was by and large the Mauser K98 (K for Karbiner). I think that's what they mean when they say Mauser.

You can find a nice shooter grade Mauser 98 type at Century Arms or at J.G. Sales. Have your local dealer order you one.

"Bf109 in Action Part 1" says "... provision being made for emergency desert survival equipment including a carbine." -- it doesn't say mauser, it says carbine.

But the real proof is in "Aero Detail: Messerschmitt Bf109E" where it spells it out as a Mauser Kar98k, and even shows where it's stored.

To be fair, they were concerned more with the aircraft drawings -- they might not have had a reference for the K98 so they just drew a generic outline.

I'd take the description over a vague outline, personally :aok

The K98 is great, but as far as pure shooting is concerned, and mobility is no issue, the Mauser Gewehr 98 is the better gun. It's the full-stock version of the K98.
