...especially by comparison to some forums.
I figured that I should make an attempt to interact more on internet BBs in my community, so I logged on the other day to a local forum to post a notice about a free event we were hosting and started posting in some of the smaller threads as well. Most of the posting on this board is done completely anonymously, but from the beginning I went in as who am I. Almost immediately I had one individual who decided I was Americas biggest threat, announced it was his job and the job of people like him to identify (label) people like me and keep me under control so that I wouldn't be allowed to take over the country (which was my nefarious plan of course - today the local BB, tomorrow THE WORLD, BABY!.) So rather than actually interacting he spent his time popping into every thread with helpful comments about how I was no different from the Taliban. After a week I found I was getting thread stalked by he and another user. In a discussion of children in restaurants, for instance he would punch in with helpful comments like "Watch out everyone...the word "poop" might be considered too strong for some of our more saintly forum members."
Moderation was non-existant and the discussion seldom gets beyond the school yard level, "I know you are, but what am I" and "I am Rubber you glue..." and "Liar, Liar" are pretty much all you need to know to get along "jes' fine".
Anyway, after a little while of this I realized how thankful I am for the OC. Heck, I even found myself longing for posts from the guys here who never, ever agree with me. And believe me, Skuzzification can definitely be a good thing.
