ASUS EAX1900XT question
« on: October 06, 2006, 02:57:45 PM »
Buiding the new box with an Intet E6600......
I'm picking ASUS EAX1900XT/2DHTV/512 Radeon X1900XT 512MB
over
POWERCOLOR 1900XT512MB Radeon X1900XT 512MB
because of the price and since I'm getting an ASUS P5W DH DELUXE I figured I'd stay with the same brand. The 256MB aren't that much cheaper .

Here's the question. I read a couple of reviews about the noise and poor cooling capabilities of the ASUS EAX1900XT. Is this the general consensus or all vid cards this big need lots of cooling and associated noise?

Thanks.

The 1900's run hot.  Very hot.  The default ATI cooling solution is very noisy.  I went with the HIS 1900XTX, due to it using the Artic Cooler which is a very quiet and efficient cooling solution.  It aint cheap though.

Show off!

The HIS 1900XTX is 256MB though. I was looking at a 512. Do I really need 512?

Thnx

I have yet to run anything that would use that much video ram, but there are probably some games out there which could use it.  I just do not have any.

OK, I see 2 models for the X1900TX or 1900XTX

HIS Hightech H190XT256DVN-R Radeon X1900XT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 CrossFire Video Card - Retail  $299.99 - No Reviews

and

HIS Hightech H190XTQ256DVN-R Radeon X1900XT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 IceQ3 Video Card - Retail  $329.99 - 2 reviews/no mention of Artic.

the only diffrence I see is that the crossfire has "R580 90nm process" and the IceQ3 doesn't.

Am I safe to assume that "IceQ3" is the one with the artic cooling?

Thanks for the help.
