Ostie Gunsite
« on: October 07, 2006, 07:16:40 PM »
Been getting whacked by Osties just out of Icon range lately.  Same guy did me 3 times today and he was on the move.  Other guys have popped me just outa Icon range.  WTF is going on ?

At first you put things down to lucky shots or good shots but this is err beyond good it's fantastic, in the full sense of the word.

Is there a gunsite or err a download that I'm not aware of  ?

When you say "out of icon range" that's 6k right? A Ostie gets an icon on a plane from 6k but a plane gets an icon on a gv from 1.5k.

1.5k isn't impossible from an Ostie I would say though that it is maximum range to fire from with any degree of accuracy.

Did the msg read:  LTARxxxx shot you down?

If so, I don't think there's anything weird about it. :D

Tinmanx you are correct.  I do refere to 1.5 to 2k out... from the planes perspective.  I should have clarified.

I confess I'm not the best shot in a Ostie but I do have an understand how difficult a 1.5 to 2k shot actually is.  At that kind of range the shell is more of a lob than a lead shot.  Thats to say one has to fire higher and lead for the shell to fall onto it's victim than rise up to hit the victim.

So wtf is going on.  Good shots ? or a combination of me getting a tad peeved ?

I feel you on that one.  There have been some folks who have hit me several times in a row with shots that would be classified as phenominal by anyone's definition.

I am convinced that some are using a 60" big screen HDTV to play this game.  As a result, when the are merely a black dot barely larger than a pinhead on my screen, they are capable of specifically aiming spcifically at my left or right eyebrow through the canopy. :D

lawman i use a 112 inch projector and i have never hit a plane at 2k from an ostie.  I think it goes into where you spend your time practicing. i.e. do you spend all your time flying around going air to air or alot defending a base from planes in a gv.  On a side note i have heard that some guys use a dry erase marker to put a dot on there screen to help with ground to air combat.
I have pulled off some pretty long shots in tank to tank battles though thanks to my monitor.

Get in a osti. Place mouse cursor over the dot in middle of gunsite. Press Page Up until you reach max height. Aim with cursor. Planes 1.5k out moving diagonal to you shoot at them so they are just off screen. Anything closer just adjust. Takes some practice but you quickly start achieving noob LTAR status.

There's a thread somewhere by Zazen that explains how to lead an Ostie. I read that and followed the tips and started hitting at 1.5 fairly often as a result.

My longest shot in an Osty was 2K. It was a 110 going vertical and I just happened to rais my aim just right.. Befor that it was a 1.7 and 1.8 shot in a row in the same guy going from right to left.... Got a big for those shots :)

Lynx the 1.5 K shot isn't all that tough, well within the osti range.  1.5 to 2.0 is more difficult.......but do-able.  The further out, the harder it is to zero in on ur target.  Not only do you have to consider lead, but also elevation...........is target climbing or decending........speed of target.....etc. etc. etc.  Past the 2.0K marker.......well quite frankly is what we call the "Golden BB"  shot............"Spray & Pray".  If one hits, ya reach around and pat yourself on the shoulder.

Hawker you hit it right on the head.......training.  One of the reasons LTAR has their Rep with an Osti is because the squad actually trains with them in the DA & TA.  Every time there seems to be a low in hitting targets, it's off to the training fields, do some tuning up.

Longest "Golden BB" shot I've seen 3.5K, C-47............yea should've heard channel 200 on that one :rofl

I've hit fighters at 3.5k many times.   It's "all in the lead".
