i would vote for AM2 if going AMD line. though you can get the 939 X2 up to 4800+ which should be plenty for anyone .. your gonna pay for anything high end wiether it be conroe or high end AMD.  if you not getting the high end intel conroe then AMD chips are better cost to power wise. i saw X2 3800+ (dual core) AMDs for 150.00 at newegg  not to long ago .

For you folks saying you are getting 90 or 100 fps, what is your monitor refresh, and are you really running with Vsych set to Always On?

Thanks for that excellent post, Schutt.

Rolex,

Monitor refresh rates go up as resolutions are tuned down.

I have a 22 inch CRT and the highest FPS I can get at 1600x1200 is 85.

If I knock it down to a lower res, I can get a higher FPS.

So I imagine is possible to get 100 fps on certain resolutions with certain monitors, but anything over 100 would seem to me to have vsynch turned OFF.
