Neg, the AH com system is first rate, no need for Team Speak or such like.

Better than that!  AH is unique (at least as far as I know) in that it has its own VOX built into it.  There is the Range Radio which allows you to verbally communicate with any countryman within range and then there is the Channel Radio where you tune your radio to a specific channel and communicate regardless of distance.  There is nothing to install or even configure.  It is part of the install and pretty much just works.  It is second to none (IMHO).

One other thing about the viewing system that has not been mentioned.  If you have Track IR, AH2 is one of the only flight games to support all six degrees of freedom.  Once you try TIR with AH you will NEVER want to put your thumb on a POV again!

Bueller67, I've flown Aces High on and off for must be close to 4 years now.  Lots of fun.  Yes to all your questions.  I don't know about Fighter Aces.  I fly the FW190-D quite a bit.  A monster plane.  You'll like it.

I disagree, I consistently get hits with K4 spud gun at d600-800 in maneuver fights

same with d9

But I do love this game to death, and encourage anyone interested to give it a try!

As was mentioned, to make the best of your free trial period download the game and fly offline for a period of time.
It can be boring as heck but you will learn the flight model, some of the gunnery model and some game commands and be in a better position for your online trial.
Be advised offline is not a true representation of online play in that the offline drones can fly around with maximum damage and not be effected. You basically have to get them to explode to kill them.
Visit http://www.netaces.org, one of the best help sites for the game, in addition to the help files. Netaces does have a Quick Reference Guide you can print with most of the commands on it.
Far too many, if not most, people on this Board post just to say something opposed to posting when they have something to say.

"padlock"? what th heck is that??

j/k....I know what it is, but never use it. As someone has already said, HTC's view system is so fluent I don't need it. OTOH, after seeing films of others using that tracking thingy you wear on your head...now THAT's something I could get into!

edit: Oh yeah, it's called TrackIR.

Improvements, like new maps in the main arenas, are non existant.. you will soon get very bored of seeing the same DULL maps again and again... but have no choice but to game on them.

The game play is good enough to get past the stale maps, but there is lots of room for improvements.

Whatever you do, Do Not Join A Scenario or any of the number of events that are produced.  Just don't do it.  We consider it a pleasure if the players have a life outside of AH, and if you get sucked into the events, you are Lost and will never come out again, so just avoid them at all costs.

Anyone that gets tired of the Maps is not doing enought to get the Full Aces High experience.  The Main Arena's is only half the experience.  I will remind everyone that there is a whole bunch of Special Events that are scheduled on the Events server that allows for a whole extra dimention to the game.  Visit http://www.ahevents.org to see all the activities available.  Bueller, you will be interested in the FSO (Friday Squad Ops.) historical based activity on Friday nights.  Also, the KOTH (King of the Hill) event is a blast as is the AHXARL (Racing League).  There is more than enough stuff to keep you busy for years and years at AH.  Just pop in and get active in everything, and you will never get bored.

Regarding the German planes, I never played FA, but the German planes are very competetive.  They take lots more skill to fly well than most of the Allied planes, but that is part of the attraction for me.  I am sure you will find the flight modeling of the German planes very good compared to FA.  The 109K-4 is one of the best planes in the entire planeset as is the 190D-9, but in my opinion, it takes much more skill to fly the 190.  I stick to the 109G-14 mostly since I love the 30mm tater cannon, and it turns a bit better than the 109K-4.  Look me up after 9:00 pacific time usually, and I will help you get up to speed.  Good luck.

Edit:  Rats, ROC beat me to the punch.  :aok

Bueller67  I've been here a little over four months.  I was invited to join a squad and I'm really glad I did.  That said don't necessarily jump at the first squad that contacts you.  This is a great game and I absolutely love it in spite of some of the things a lot of people gripe about.  The learning curve is STEEP so don't expect to be great first rattle out of the box but if you are come teach me ;)

Lots of good folks and don't draw an opinion on a group of people just because you hear negative feedback about them on the boards.

And if you want to go fly in the ta sometime pm me and I'll meet you there if we can.  I need all of the practice I can get.

Is it worth my time to set up a subscription and give AH a try after spending so many years with FA?

Thanks for replies.

There's a bunch of us over here From FA . Most of us made this our perma Home By the time FA 2.5  shut down .

The Flight model is more like the Full realism but without the "Dot Zoom kill" that was happening in FA3 ..

There's tons of map/terrain/plane skin development here ,and the players are encoraged to create.

We have alot of the same Special events here , but we have  access to build them as we see fit .

The most important thing here in Aces High is Customer support ... its 1st class all the way .
