Info Request: Fw 190 D-9 Deployment history
« on: October 11, 2006, 11:18:25 AM »
Can someone tell me when this plane reached operational Gruppen and what units those were and where they were based?  (books at home)

Thanks!

Thank you, according to information from from an Osprey book on LW 190 Aces you are correct.

III/JG54 deployed them in September 1944.

I appreciate your the mature answer to a question.

Also depends which boost version, there were a few.

Last one (one we have in AH2) was 'ready' for deployment the end of Dec 1944, so take it around Mid/late? Jan (probably) 1945.

According to Axel Urbanke's 'Green Hearts, First in Combat with the Dora 9' he states that D-9s were deliveries to III./JG54 began in Sept '44 but did not fly combat missions until Nov '44. They were 'fully deployed' to the squadron by the end of Sept '44.

D-9 production began in August '44 but this has little to do with 'deployment' or 'squadron service'.

There were four different forms of 'special emergency power' for the JUMO213A:

1. Increased Boost Pressure (Erhöhte Notleistung)
2. MW-50 Injection
3. Special Take-off peak (Sonderstartspitze)
4. GM-1

MW-50 system came in two types, low pressure (Oldenburg Gerät) and high pressure system. This pressure only refers to the pump pressure inside the MW50 system. In case of the low pressure system, MW50 was pumped to the injection valves at 0,6 atü using charged air from the engine. In case of the high pressure system, delivery pressure was 4 atü using a compressor.

The AH2 Fw 190D-9 runs at 1.80 ata (B4 + MW 50). This is the 'high pressure' MW-50 system which didn't enter service until Jan. '44.

Test flight data for the FW190D9 Wk.-Nr. 210 002 with both "Erhöhte Not-/Startleistung" and with MW-50 injection can be ordered from NASM:

1. FW/Fb/FW190-210001 (1-2)
Reel: 8069 Frame: 1153

2. FW/Fb/FW/210001/(3)
Reel: 2861 Frame: 989

3. FW/Fb/FW190-210002 (1,2,3)
Reel: 3996 Frame: 343

4. FW/FW190/Sch/16/3/45
Reel 2731 Frame: 797

Those four together will be exactly 50 pages, so if you order them, you won't exceed the limit per order.

Wk.-Nr. 210 002 was specially rigged to test the performance of both boost settings on one plane.

Yes I could if I wanted to build a D9, I just wanted some quick information on their deployment before I was reunited with my entire library.

Cheers.
