Extreme Darkness with Voodoo 3 2000 PCI
« on: August 18, 2001, 11:57:00 AM »
G'day, guys.

I was wondering if anyone knew how to fix this rather common problem with Voodoo 3 cards:  when I enter the AH arena (offline only while setting up my computer), I can barely see anything because the arena is so dark.  I've had this same issue with a lot of other games that I've tried to play.

I've adjusted my gamma, brightness and contrast settings until I was blue in the face.  :D  The adjustments are visible in the Windows98 environment.  But, when I log back into Aces High, the arena is still dark.

Does anyone know how I can fix this issue?

---------
Where is the Aces High .ini file?  What is it called?
---------

Thank you for any info. that you can provide.

Hmm I used to play on a V3 and didn't have this issue....  have you checked your monitor lately...
Do you have all the latest drivers?

Everything is in HTC/Aces High/settings Folder

Here is a link to the newest Voodoo drivers..

These have been created by a gamer for Voodoo cards (since 3dfx disintegrated)

3dfx Voodoo Drivers

I had to install these in order to run WWIIOnline...

I had the same problem you are having with very dark screens.  Especially in Air Warrior.  The Beta drivers fixed it and also improved my frame rates...

Good Luck

Thank you SKurj and BOOT for your input.  SKurj, my monitor is fine; the darkness isn't totally uncommon amongst Voodoo3 users.  I'm glad you were able to avoid the problem, though.   :)

Oh man, BOOT, THANKS FOR THAT HYPERLINK!  I've been praying for a site like that.  lol.  The download link was down when I visited the site tonight, but - rest assured - I'll be checking time and again so that I can get these new drivers.

Again, thank you both!

Well, the download for the new drivers weren't available, but I d/l'ed the Voodoo3 Tweaker, and it fixed my problem right up!  Woohoo!!

I strongly suggest this tool for anyone who is using a Voodoo card.

Thank you, BOOT, for showing me that site!  I owe you one, man!

Bro, you're not going to be the last guy to ever pass that hyperlink on...   :)  I'm sending it to every Voodoo owner I ever come across.

I can see...I can see!  lol.
