Air America rumors true - declares Chap 11

After all of the vehement denial of bankruptcy rumors, Air America has filed chapter 11.

Air America Radio files for Chapter 11 By SETH SUTEL, AP Business Writer

NEW YORK - Air America Radio, the liberal talk and news radio network that features the comedian        Al Franken, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Friday, but will stay on the air while it reorganizes with funding from its investor group.

The question I have: Is it the business model, the target audience, or the lack of commitment from financial backing?   I think it boils down to investors tired of watching their money go down the drain with no prospect for recuping profits.  It hung around a lot longer than I expected though.

I heard Soros wants out.  I'm pretty sure that the problem is falling ratings - a failure to appeal to many people beyond a relatively small group of ultra leftist progressives.  Its tough for Progressives to do talk that doesn't sound totallly negative, whiney and arrogant to the average American.  Still, they may be able to maintain a presence on the air.

Gee, guess people just dont like the message they are trying to get across?  I suppose blame America gloom n doom aint something people are much for....they can get that daily on ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, etc etc

Must be a sour pill to swallow...Rush, Hannity and others are still hugely profitable with huge audiences.

If you have ever listened to Airhead America , you could see how they are in that spot.

Listen to them for about 30 minutes and you'll be the most depressed person. Frik you'll be thinking the secret service will be at your door watiing to take you away. Or , the CIA or FBI.

It's just amazing to listen to the stuff they say. Then turn on say...Hannity , Igram , Limbaugh , those types. HUGE differnce in how it is delivered and such.

I have ben listening to both side otw to work. Conservative going to work...Air America otw home from work for about the last 3 months.

IF you get a chance before they leave the air....try it. You'll see what I mean.

It really didn't have much to do with ratings, but a bad business choice.

The stereotypical Democrat lives in the city and doesn't drive much.  Therefor he is a bad target for any radio stations.

The stereotypical Republican lives in the country and drives everywhere.  Therefore he is a good target for any radio stations.

RedTop nailed it I think.  I have XM radio and listen to both sides while I'm on the road all the time.  Air America is just downright depressing and negative.  The sterotypes about right wing radio actually fit the reality of Air America much better.

Well... there it is... this all proves that the conservatives know EXACTLY what they are doing because a liberal talk show goes under.

While I enjoy Franken's books, his radio show pretty much blew. I do enjoy Dave Bender though.

The last time I listened to Air America, I learned that Osama Bin Laden was originally an actor, who was hired by the CIA to be a "terrorist"....uh huh...since then i have skipped that channel on XM...

And the whole drive 2 work thing is complete BS...I listen to talk radio AT work as background noise when I am not swamped!

And Hannity compared to anyone else on airhead america is night and day...

I've been getting into the radio factor lately, and mark davies

Name a successful, liberal democrat talk radio show that comes close to the audience size and financial success.

Please...name them.  If there are any
