FSO: 1942 Invasion Burma - Score, Frame 1
« on: October 15, 2006, 08:49:47 AM »
Gentlemen,

Below are the results for frame 1 of 1942: Invasion Burma.

Now in regards to planes not being landed by official end frame both sides had issues with this and fought almost right until time ran out between A23 and A32 (we are talking roughly around 5 planes per side were still up). The allies all got down in about a 1 minute margin after end frame and the IJAAF took longer.

I have instructed the setup CM in the future to note when end frame is but to keep the logs rolling until all planes are down so I can get time markers. Since it is very difficult to figure out who went over and who didn’t from the logs when they are closed before everybody is down.

This is the first frame that I have participated in that the fighting really went up to the line and all the way to the end basically the sides were even in numbers.

So I am ruling that the Allied and IJAAF end frame penalties cancel each other out since I am not sure of what mix of IJAAF aircraft were up (I know a few A6M2s .. at least 3 over at A23 but not sure if the JU88s were all down or if was 5 A6M2s versus 5 allied fighters or 3 A6M2s and 2 JU88s and 5 Allied fighters)

Anyway here is the score. Can’t get much closer to a tie than this. Even if the 5 Axis planes that went over had 2 JU88s in the mix it would just shift the scores to IJAAF 1150 and RAF 1160. Still a 10 point difference and a tie.

1125 = IJAAF
1115 = RAF

Break down of results are below. As posted in another thread and as you can see by these numbers the IJAAF won the ground portion of the war. They hit P14 and A23 extremely hard while the Allies only slightly damaged A27 and only got the CA of C40. As for Rangoon the IJAAF didn’t take down the HQ building but they did destroy a lot of the surrounding structures.

However, while the IJAAF was able to get bombs on target and did not suffer equal damage in return they took very heavy losses in the air.

Basically the IJAAF out scored the allies 2 to 1 in the JABO arena but were outscored 2 to 1 in air to air combat.

      As a JU-88 who ended up ditched with one wheel off the pavement at  a vehicle "airbase", out of fuel, 30 seconds to a minute after the end of frame, I don't think there should be any penalties for going over the time limit. We had about a four sector flight home after bombing Rangoon and there was no way to predict when we had to leave the target in order to land in time for frame end. If anything, some of the nme fields could have been converted to friendly bases to allow us to get down sooner.

      We got caught out by fields being vbases not airfields.  It had a double whammy.  We toured about looking for fields to rearm at, which wasted a lot of time before we could up for the last sortie.  On the last sortie itself we had a long way to travel to get home because of the base fiasco.  We tried to disengage in time to get home, but were continually bounced and had to fight all the way out.  This of course slows you down shockingly.

      Even so our planes had the field in sight when the logs shut.

      Ultimately it was map that slowed us because it led to incorrect decision making.
      I get really really tired of selective realism disguised as a desire to make bombers easier to kill.

      I know which is another reason I decided no penalty for not being down by T+120.
