For the guy who has everything...
« on: October 16, 2006, 09:07:42 AM »

Toshiba announced this prototype display today in Japan that projects an omnidirectional, 360-degree image to the curved dome. IR sensors track head position so the center of view is like your natural head position, and you'd have true peripheral vision... assuming your neck doesn't break.

The prototype weighs 6.6 lbs., but commercial versions in a few years should weigh less.

The flat panel is displaying a 2D version of the image.

Hmmm, I feel some captions coming on.

For the man who has everything....

Penicillin!

A note, the "IR tracking" appears to be a good ol' fashioned TrackIR on the monitor.

Hellooooo, it's called a straw.  You mount a hat w/ a beer can on one side and a container of ground up cheetos on the other side.  Two straws, two treats.  Just like the astronauts, except without the diapers.  Unless you're doing simulated SAC B-52 missions, that is.

The trick will be to turn off the monitor while wearing it, and whenever she's in the room, use your hands to make 'milking' motions until she demands to see what you're looking at.
