
Toshiba announced this prototype display today in Japan that projects an omnidirectional, 360-degree image to the curved dome. IR sensors track head position so the center of view is like your natural head position, and you'd have true peripheral vision... assuming your neck doesn't break.
The prototype weighs 6.6 lbs., but commercial versions in a few years should weigh less.
The flat panel is displaying a 2D version of the image.
