Help Frame rate unplayable
« on: October 17, 2006, 08:15:08 AM »
I have an HP Pavillion notebook ZV-5420. It has a 3 ghz pent. 4 Processor, ATI 9000 video with 128 megs of shared ram with 256 built in ram and one slot available that I have a 512 ram chip in it. When I try to play my best frame rate is 15 - 20. I have tried different video configurations but not helping. I wanted to know if I swap out the 512 megs of ram for a 1012 chip if that will help?

My son has a similar setup.  only with a full Gig of ram
Was able to get his to run 25-40
You try turning your textures down?

also. stay away from furballs

The ram might help but if you get more than 3 planes around you or close to ground with burning hangers the framerates will still drop to unacceptable lvl.

I bought a 1gig memory and installed but it didn't help much, maybe I got an extra 4 fps. Was really hoping this would fix it but thx for the info. Guess I will just have to save up and buy a desktop later before I can play.

A laptop with integrated video is pretty much hopeless for gaming. You can expect similar gaming performance from a desktop in the $600 range.

Wait. did you remember to turn off all the extra crap your computer came with?

Usually they come with ALOT of extra crap running in the background.

Next time my son comes home with his if your still haveing problems Ill let ya know how I set his up.

It doesnt run AH GREAT but its defintely playable in all but large furballs

I've had a laptop with ATI9001 integrated video and it was pretty much useless for any kind of gaming.

My current centrino-duo with x1400 can handle games somehow even though it's still much slower than my (old) desktop.
