I'm going to be in Charleston SC next week for work, actually staying at the Homewood Suites in Mt. Pleasant, and was wondering if there was anyone who lived in the area?

Just wanted to maybe meet some of the players from the area for a beer and shoot the crap.

I grew up there, but haven't been back in years. If you have time though, make a trip to the Yorktown or Fort Sumpter. Good stuff.

Yep did all the tourist stuff the last time I was down there. I'm just looking to hang out and have a few beers this time around.

Unfortantly the 3 other guys I'm going down with have 0 interest in aviation or drinking beer so unless I can find a fellow AH'er to hang with, I'm going to be bored out of my skull for a week.

Big time computer geeks the lot of them. I mean I like messing around with computers and all, and it's part of my job, but I don't go so far as to memorize motherboard chip settings and FSB speeds from different companies. These guys write code in unix and stuff for fun.Just not my idea of a good time ya know.

Hey Hornet,

I'm in Mount Pleasant (lived around here for 25 years and still haven't figured out where they got that name)...  drop me a pm or an email to scottydawg@gmail(dot)com.  Dunno if I can get out in the evenings on short notice (wife keeps me on a short leash :D ) but can definitely do lunch.  My work's down on the old Navy base.

I see you're a Coastie too, I'm an ex Coastie.  Small world, eh?

Aha, at least you're not a deck ape.  I was a snipe on the Lipan and then the Thetis. Main Prop monkey.

All the gunners mates on the Thetis were totally crazy.  I'm surprised they didn't blow the boat up.

Hey I can handle snipes. I enjoy turning wrenches myself from time to time. Deck apes tend to irritate me. That whole I'm a Bosn Mate I run the world thing gets old after awhile. Gunners are OK in my book too. If the ship can't move, shoot, or communicate it's doing no good to anyone.

Oh and yeoman use velcro!!!! Laces are too complicated.

I used to start liberty from the Weapons Station in Goose Creek(or Black Creek?) Rode my boat in and did the offload, walked to the end of the pier and hitch-hiked off the base. Then home to the upstate.

Threw around many a 5'38 shell on that pier.....

Thetis huh? I was on Legare for awhile. 270 sailors are the real deal. If you can survive that ordeal, you can survive anything.
