Having trouble with my computer running ok, then it'll freeze, then reboot by itself while playing the game. Also, I dual boot windows/linux (i hate windows) but wanna play this game again. In linux i play Americas Army and it freezes in there too, so im guessing maybe a hardware problem? Im using an Athlon 3500+, nvidia GeForce 6800GT vid card. 500watt power supply, 256mb ram. Is this a video problem? maybe i need to use a new driver? If anyones had this problem before ide appreciate any input, its starting to get annoying. I played today fine for 10minutes and then froze then reboot, the computers not getting hot either, only 34C.

First thing i would do is check the temperatures.... you might simply be running hot.

Another possibility is spy/mal/adaware. Check for those too.

Also, if you get booted with a bluescreen, try turning off the auto-reboot in Windows and see what the bluescreen has to say - might give a hint.


And yes, it could also be a GPU/driver thing. What drivers are you running?

I had similar problems lately, i think in my case its the onboard sound im using. Do you have a sound card? Drivers updated? Are you using custom sound pack?




When you say you have 256 RAM... is that vid RAM or system RAM?
If its system, make sure youre not preloading anything, tex size to 256 max and disable skins.

Temperatures seem to be ok. Like i said, it gets up to 34degrees celcius or so. Core and Ambient seem to be cool. It cant be spy/mal/adware since there is no such thing with linux, so that doesnt seem like it could be the problem. How do i check what driver im using? Im using a chainteck 7.1 soundcard, not onboard sound. and not using custom sound packs, but i'll check to see if i need a sound driver update.

Run a dxdiag in windows to check driver.

START > RUN > Dxdiag. You can "Save all information" in a txt file. The first third is the interesting part (all devices, drivers etc listed. Copy paste it in here if you want us to take a look at it.

The 9x.xx driver series have all kinds of problems with AH.

Try going back to an older driver version. (Im using the 84.66 on my 7600 GT).


Also, check in sound device for your hardware accelleration. Get it down to 3/4 (Standard) if its on full.

I put my color in the game at like 256 instead of 520? i think it is, and made it for unlimited fps, worked great both times i played, getting about 85fps or so, but was very smooth and never froze, we'll see if that does the trick.

nope... that didnt do it... played a few times b4 it rebooted though. hmm... maybe i'll try switching drivers... but i am getting the feeling its a hardware problem, we'll see.

I had a similar problem (when playing Flight Sim X demo) that I was sure was due to my video card. I'd take off, fly for about 30 seconds then freeze and automatic reboot.

I found that updating my sound card drivers all but solved the problem. I then had it happen on the odd occasion but updating the sound drivers made an immediate difference. I started monitoring the temperature of my computer using MBM 5 Freeware and found my PC would get really hot (Case 50 degrees C and CPU 70 degrees C). I have installed a Huge Fan in my Case (one I salvaged out of an old mainframe). Now my CPU doesn't go over 60. Still warm but my computer no longer crashes.

So in summary. Check your sound card drivers and watch your temperature.

Had a similar problem with linux / windows pc at work, i noticed the temp of the air that got blown out of the power supply was pretty high and the problem only in the summer. But it seems you have that coverd.

Maybe try to open the case and clean the dust out of the graphic card heatsink and see if the fan on it is still spinning?

I'd guess one of three things:

1> RAM problems... try buying a new stick... swap it out with the old one... and if the problem still isn't fixed.. then put the old one back in.. at least you'll have doubled your memory in the process!

2> Video card... try removing and reinstalling it, I've seen these problems happen from something as simple as it not being fully seated in the slot

3> Power Supply (This is what I would suspect the most)... someone here probably knows where to get some testing software.. or something to at least show your core voltages, I have feeling it's dropping out somewhere.  Windows will reboot itself on a lot of errors (unless you've turned it off), but the fact that it's also rebooting from Linux is making me think of a power issue... usually another hardware issue will cause a hard freeze, not necessarily a reboot.

Try this from windows... START > CONTROL PANEL > SYSTEM > ADVANCED > STARTUP AND RECOVERY (SETTINGS)   THEN   UNCHECK  "Automatically Restart"  THEN   OK > OK

Now play the game and see if you get a freeze or a reboot.

If it still reboots, I would seriously consider a power supply.
